I'm on my phone so I'll keep it short. The personal insults and subsequent bans I have no comment on. Clear written rules and all that. No idea why p. Singhof was included in the list, he's quite possibly the most balanced person on here. El Wayne etc are not on the f1 forum too often so I get how he missed it, I just thought it was worth a mention. Toil has admitted on several occasions he has been baiting other users to provoke a reaction with his ridiculous one sided views. Unfortunately simply putting him on ignore is a futile exercise, his posts get quoted so much (because of their ridiculous content) you might as well not have him on ignore and have the posts in line... It's a shame being an overzealous fanboy, rude, baiting and subject to troll like behavior is not a bankable offence, it's been said and agreed by a good many here that ever since his arrival (and VERY quickly accusing everyone of anything because they post a negative thing o Hamilton) things have been going south quickly on the f1 forum. Almost everyone respected each others views even with differences, and got discussed in a relative civil matter. One wonders what he actually does here. My opinion is that he feeds on arguing with others, he extremely rarely has posted outside the f1 forum, does nothing but bash drivers, make up **** to suit his own agenda and cause a reaction. Damn shame.
What concerns me is this behavior is actually bad for our health as you can get irrationally worked up and OCD out on it. This is why I suggested to one person that he take a break so he can return with a more relaxed and balance view. This place is supposed to be like chatting with your racing mates at your local, or car club meet. That's all, not what must be for some their whole life as they struggle to ensure they come out in top and right/win. Heck their partners must hate this site ... Pete
As i've said often, i only wish to know what a cat's fan is doing in a dog's forum! Toil is not a Ferrari fan, he's an Hamilton fan, he only posts here to piss the rest of us, everyone knows this. If the Mods see no problem with this, than there is nothing we can do about it....but if a porshe guy enters the 458 section to claim everyday the 911 is the best what do you think it will happen?
Toil is a troll. Everyone, save the rest of the Fanbois Quartet, sees it. If the mods wanted to address it they could. There is a "no trolling" rule. That's all they need. Evidence: Toils repeated insistence that Hamilton drove great in Hungary. Hamilton himself admits his "day at the office" was poor. The only conclusion is the site likes the drama, as it drives up the post counts and site views. It's a business after all. As you say, the same behavior in any other section wouldn't be tolerated. (Great analogy BTW!).
+10,000. And he does it continuously, and gets a tremendous thrill out of it. The reality is, the forum was going great, until Toil came along. Now, it's completely in the ****ter. It's not difficult to apply common sense to save what was a perfectly decent forum. But as the saying goes... Common sense is the least common of all the sense. Shame.
F-1 forum is more relaxed with the rules than the rest of FChat. Only P&R has less restrictions. Almost anything short of a direct insult goes. Whether thats good or bad is another question. But that is the standard. One mod once offered a cleanup but chances are not too many people would be left. Just think about how many of the regulars here have been banned. Wipe them out and you are left with a few lurkers
Very true. And I think that, in general, we're a pretty tolerant crew. While it's Fchat, there's no "mandate" that you have to be a Ferrari fan to participate - In fact, diversity of opinion is good IMO - We have fans of most teams & drivers that can state their case eloquently and without pissing off the whole community. No problem. What is a problem, both to me & many others it seems, is they're trolls, pure & simple. Many have tried to "educate" them - As I've said before, Peter S in particular has exhibited the patience of a saint here, only to be (rudely in some cases) rebuffed. Their behavior may be tolerated by the mods, but I'm noticing less posts by long term, respected, members who I believe are leaving, or at least not participating, as a result of this BS. Maybe the rules do indeed need to applied in the same way here as in the other forums? Cheers, Ian
This precisely is the result of the continued deliberate inaction of you mods. I post this question back: Just think about how many of the regulars here have been banned? And all of these for one and the same reason/person. The problem is inaction for all I can say. You come so late to the party that you didn't see how it started and now you act like a mother that says there is always two belonging to a fight. Kraftwerk is one of the nastiest commenters here. He consistently misinterprets comments of other people, when being corrected he ALWAYS goes into his dance of words that spins on for pages. This works excellent in combination with toil and his twin tesla who post things so hilariously outrageous that people have to comment. Then Kraftwerk feels his golden boy was insulted and there we go again for pages. It is the same every time. How P. Singhof ended up on anyones list I cannot fathom. He is precise, polite and always tries to approach the many skewed points with correctness. I don't understand how toil's arrogance, aggression, constant accusation of this and that, racism, and clear lack of knowledge of what he talks about can be accepted by you mods. He is not here to share knowledge, he is not here to learn about F1. I think he even once stated that he is only done here when we all accept Hamilton as the best driver. You mods say we must flag. I every now and then flag some of toils posts to no result. It is sag. I am not a frequent poster here but one of the once many that came through at a race weekend to catch up with all the great knowledge around F1 and the different perspectives on things. Fellows here would know little things about technology, drivers, engineers from current to dating back decades. What a fabulous place this has been. Up until toil has joined. Go back, check your stats. When did he joing, read his first 200 posts and see how the forum tried to keep the balance in a polite manner. Look how people gave second and third chances, and look how it went down. We all thought we are grown ups we can somehow access toil and get the message across that the way he operates on this board is not really acceptable. To no effect. It feels childish to behind someones back report to the mods. Precicely for that reason we are here today. I beg you mods, go back and read toil's first 200 posts. You will need a double Whiskey on your desk at minimum. I don't understand your protectionism of the ultimate destructive troll. Some people have received bans so easily why is there such resistance to get going on this problem? All race-weekend-related threads are increasingly worthless since the arrival of toil
+1 All very well stated. Completely agree with all, and particularly about Peter S's patience & demeanor. I guess a few put him on ignore because in his tireless efforts to educate he quotes the twins, and hence "upsets" others who don't want to see their nonsense. Cheers, Ian
Why did he end up on my ignore list? Because he can't stop replying to posts that the poster is simply in it to get a response. If you quote those on my ignore list frequently, it negates the ignore feature as quote's of ignored are part of the poster's text. If instead of responding to drivel, you let it die, it...dies. If it contains personal insults, report it, and move on. https://xkcd.com/386/ Seems like it was a fantastic race though, I hope maybe I'll get to watch a re-run sometime.
It would be interesting to see how many people have various members on ignore… that data point provides info on who is a nuisance.
My feeling is the feature is way too underutilized around here. And as tervuren points out: Even if you have somebody on the ignore list, you still will see the posts where that person is getting quoted.
Indeed. I just checked, and apart from the twins, I have just 3 others on mine, and it seems two of those have moved on. Only one remains active, so it does seem "ignore" does work, even if it takes a while for the trolls to get bored and go elsewhere. Cheers, Ian
Correct. You don't need to use a computer, you just have to use an actual web browser to access F-Chat and not forum application like Tapatalk.
Yes, since you've cornered me like this, I must admit it! We were attacking you personally and "denying" stuff when we asked that everyone report rules violations as they see them (even though I have no idea who you are and don't recall ever interacting with you here before this thread). And now it's true that we're intentionally allowing trolling in order to increase post counts (even though there's absolutely no reason why moderators would care about post counts). You've uncovered the F-Chat moderator conspiracy! OMG! What now?! The silent black helicopters are coming!
