    Please do.

It's socialist to work hard on a negotiation. Then just hand it over to someone else before I've made up my mind.

I did not see the part in your more resent response about "once I make a decision" my apologies for that. Having said that, your original response seemed to indicate there were other reasons ("hitting the pavement/negotiating hard etc") for not passing along the info. In any case, I fail to understand how anything I asked you to do could be considered "socialist". Especially given I said I would not expect anyone to hand over a deal when they are not sure if they want it themselves or not---for more than obvious reasons.

Obviously it is not the best thing to waste a ton of a sellers time to get a low price and not execute. Much much worse, is to do that---choose a different car--then not be willing to point a buyer to the seller who has worked so hard to get a deal going when it costs you nothing. Sounds like either you came around on that or there was some miscommunication to begin with.

On a side note, I wonder if you are working "too hard" at negotiating. Seems like it should go something like this. Please humor my "dramatization".

Buyer to Seller: I saw the ad you placed. Please tell me about the car and the condition.

Seller: condition is xyz. History of car is "XYZ". I'll email you the service records and a carfax I ran. Also, I will send you some hi-res pics. Please come take a look if you can, it is a cream puff and I love the car, but have to sell for xyz reason.

Buyer: (Assuming Buyer likes what he sees so far) I can take a look (or can't). Or pics look great. We should do a PPI, however, before we do that, I would be willing to pay x (in this case around 30K below ask) for your car assuming the condition is as you say. I don't want to waste your time with a PPI or having you meet me so I can view the car unless we have a probable deal once we go through all the effort and expense. I of course value your time.

Seller: Thanks. That makes sense. I won't take "x" but I will take X+1, how does that sound.

Buyer: I'll give you X+.5 assuming the PPI is as expected.

Seller: You have a deal. Lets arrange a PPI.

After this point it should be done pending a PPI. Am I missing something.

Wow, I've never seen one of these threads go so oddly P&R.

Especially odd to go the "socialist" route when you came in here claiming that your offers were "fair" but that dealers were not willing to budge. How ironic considering that some would call it socialist for you to claim unequivocally that your offers be "fair" and that they (the dealers) should "budge" to you.

Does not a buyer and seller agreeing upon price (like the people you've negotiated with only to hold out on) make a market?

    MASR04,

Go out and start washing cars for $15 an hour instead of grinding dealers to sell you a 599 below market. With the time that you save from trying to buy BELOW market and instead spend washing cars, you will SOON have the $145k+ that it takes to buy a no stories car.

The old adage that the cheapest Ferrari isn't necessarily the best Ferrari applies here. Save yourself some money by paying market for a no stories car. Got it?!?!?!

Color aside, any 599 without shields is a good 599. :)

Wow! Way to rip on a guy for trying to be careful with his purchase. Unclassy to do this from the comfort of your keyboards as well. Everyone has their own style of buying and selling. And you only get one chance to make your best deal. Easy boys...

I think the classic description of a tire-kicker is someone that "negotiates" a price on a car he's not prepared to buy.

No party owes anybody anything in a negotiation. I would suggest that sellers treat buyers poorly more often than buyers mistreat the sellers. At the end of the day, it's just business. Some treat it emotionally...some are more objective....

Thanks JohnnyRay. I'm 29 young professional stretching for this next purchase after owning a Maserati, 328 and recently 550. I'm not some young virgin. I'm just trying to do the best I can.

These yahoos are playing the whole "if you can't afford it, don't buy it" mantra. Which is fine; but I'm sure they haven't a clue who Frencesco Baracca is..

It is what it is. Obviously, they'd rather ridicule than encourage. I always negotiate before buying. If we agree on a price, then I'll invest in an inspection or review documents. Why would I waste my time on those things if we did not discuss and agree on price?

Lastly, that wall street guy was ripped to shreds in the 599 section for stating that he thought the 599 was garbage compared to a Mercedes and makes enough to buy a used one in less than a day.

Plus, these haters reak of used car sales trolls. Again, thanks for the words of encouragement. You're right. Different styles and I'm doing my best to get the next car!

If you are referring to me as "that Wall St. guy" then you've got the wrong one.

    Who are you talking about?

Well I hope the OP really has found some cheap 599s. Any lower then they are now and I am getting pretty tempted as I imagine lots of other enthusiasts are.

I imagine people are a bit suspicious because, as I recall, there have been some instances in the past of people "talking down" values unrealistically, or perhaps very "hopefully", in the forum as they are trying to find a car.

I'm going to talk them down 25% and then back out because of the lack of shields. Deal breaker!

This crew often forgets that a buyer doesn't set market. It takes a buyer AND a seller to make a market. I point it out often but many think that the market value is defined as 'What I am willing to pay.'

I am currently considering 2007-2010 models. This will be my second Ferrari but my first V12. I am still researching and would really appreciate some advice on a couple of questions.:

How important is the HGTE upgrade and how much is it worth paying for?

    Are all 2010's HGTE?

I've read reviews that the HGTE makes a big difference, especially from people like Tif Needel. However I won't really be thrashing it around a track like him, just pootling around locally and taking early morning freeway drives and the odd long road trip with the Mrs. I have a Range Rover for my daily stuff.

I'm really drawn to Grigio Medio or Grigio Silverstone with Beige Daytonas/Interior but they seem hard to find!

Apologies if this post is in the wrong section and thanks in advance for any assistance.

Nope, it was an option. And yes. They're very hard to find advertised. Money talks though.

Coming from Porsches I am also toying with the idea of a 599, however my research shows that A.I.D., has hit the Equine community very hard, and is likely to be around for a bit.

For those that don't know, A.I.D. is an acronym for Amelia Island Disease, which occurs when irrational (and perhaps rabid) buyers bid a 599 3-pedal car to ridiculous levels for the sole purpose of seeing who is the stallion in the room. Upon the news of this epidemic, all 599 owners are also affected and believe their prancing steeds to now be worth 25 % more than they were a year ago.

The only known treatment for A.I.D. is a 500 point drop in the Dow Jones Industrial Average, or a real estate crash. Therefore, until this disease is under control I shall have to just tool around in my Stuttgart Special.
