Boots on the ground said Mclaren were visibly quickest through the quick turns yet visible slowest out. They just need to fix their owner issue and they will be mighty quick. Peter Prodromou's presence has made itself known.

But what I don't understand is your criticism of teams entering and leaving F1 after a few years, when you don't accuse manufacturers of doing exactly that?

To me, F1 should be opne to any team that wants to have a go, and they also can leave if they want. I don't see any reason to exclude new teams, and they should be allowed to enter to make up the grid.

I liked the pre-Ecclestone era, when up to 30 cars were entered; we had pre-qualifs and lot of diversity. I don't like F1 becoming an elitist club and excluding newcomers.

I hate baseball, but happy if the Dodgers are in first place. I root for all LA teams first, then CA teams, eff every other team!

I think they will be at the back again at Spa. I think Hungary was a one off.

Don't read too much into the Hungary results. Not only is it a very different track, but the race was full of crashes and a big safety car period at a crucial time. Macca may have benefitted by being in the right place (near the back) when cars started driving into one another. There is no way they are better than FI, Williams or Toro Rosso even though they have better drivers.

Absolutely correct. They flukes reliability to get both cars to the end this week but at a circuit that demands neither fuel economy nor power. Spa will be a nightmare for them unless they can find away to turn up the power and cut fuel consumption - which doesn't look likely..!

Well, it's because the nature of Hungary..a low power track that sides plenty of grip. It masks the current state of the Honda engine. Secondly, Fred finished so high in the points because of penalties, crashes, etc. Then again, this is F1. But i expect a normal circumstances in Spa.

I've said many times the "manufacturers" are *******. If it's not going their way they quit.

It's well known I'm not a fan of Uncle Ron, but I sure as hell respect him and his team - He & Sir Frank may well be the last of the true racers.

Sure. No argument from me there.

But, I also believe you've got to design & build it yourself. I'll concede Haas (for example) can have his tub built by Dallara, but it's a slippery slope IMO.

    Cheers,
    Ian

    haha!

They have grown quite a bit in a short time, and much of what used to be lost in translation is now being understood to a workable level. Once they have the harvesting issue under control they will be in good shape, as all their issues relating to fuel consumption and everything else relates to that one issue which they are attempting to cover up in other areas.

My personal prediction is that Mclaren or Mercedes will win the 2017 WCC. Peter P is the new Newey, and Honda and MB will have a battle Royal. Ferrari seem to be on the backstep with big rule changes, so even with Allison there I do not see them at the level as MB or Mclaren by then. Someone bookmark this for later....

I would have thought the best....maybe the only, way forward would be for MaC to build their own engines......and why not ?? Do what the Japs do...copy everyone else and make it better. Their road-car engines fine.......so; start at the bottom (where they already are) use new, (cheaper ) drivers and put the spare cash into new engines...simples.

Well, according to Ron Dennis, sponsors, or title sponsors are 'a thing in the past..'

Big paying title sponsors are a thing of the past. Look at the teams that can afford to foot their own bill; Mercedes, Ferrari, Red Bull. Everyone else has to fight for scraps.

McLaren themselves have been shedding sponsors left and right for years.

Vastly declining viewership and vastly increasing costs are starting to put major hurt on most of the teams.

FIA are content to sit around with their heads up their asses and do all the wrong things, just like they did with WRC.
