I'm looking for someone to rebuild the motor and gearbox out of my 308. Chassis F106AB18783 built in 1976 with 29000 miles on it. We are doing a full restoration on the car. Any suggestions would be appreciated.

    Thanks

Does it need a rebuild or just new gaskets?

Carobu is incredible. Their sales office is in CA and their shop is in NM. For a few thousand extra, they will give you back an engine that is 300+ hp with 270+ torque (wider, flatter, and higher curve than a 355). Not sure if you would want to modify an engine on a glass car although the changes would be all internal.

So many things here I do not get.

Why in the world would you want a fiberglass car that was modded?

Why would an original fiberglass car need extensive engine work and transmission work with less than thirty thousand miles on the clock?

I was going to say much the same thing, BUT that's all I heard when I tried to sell my 30K mile "project cars"....

They needed a lot, but almost NONE of it was engine or drivetrain!!
    :D :D :D

This car has two VINs, so maybe 60K miles, total...;)

IFS in Easton, MA is another shop with significant 308 (and other) experience. The owner used to race a GT4. They service cars from across the country. They are on FChat too (IFSINC).

As others, does it really need the work? Are you looking for perfection? Are you willing to pay the price (50K)?

Newman did mine and I couldn't be more pleased with the results. You will get it done right and tight with no BS and in a timely manner.

I doubt you could do any better than Brian Crall (RifleDriver) here in Lakeway (just west of Austin), at Hill Country Ferrari Service. He does impeccable work. He's a busy guy, but he does all the work instead of a bunch of hired helpers.

Get ahold of Craig Reed (he's on here), very reasonable pricing and does a LOT of 308's

    Nuff said

Well, I see your problem right there... dump the Fram oil filter and you'll be fine. :)

Can the motor serial number (F106AB18783) on a Ferrari be traced back to the chassis like an American matching number car ? Or is that asking to much from Ferrari.

Something looks fishy about that engine number. Looks like the plate was reheated and extra numbers added.
I have a 77GTB and the engine number is only 5 digits placed under the F106A. I wish I could post a picture.

    Hi Corrupt File,

Check my post called "vin change", may be the motor is like the chassis and has two numbers. The 021 for chassis # 18783 and 00542 for chassis # 20511. However, I think in the end only Ferrari is going to be able to answer these questions if they can.

We are making some progress with the restoration.
