'95 512 M Red/tan No mention of miles; Cavallino Platinum 2015 "accepting serious offers starting at $850,000"....... sorry I cannot post a link, Jack
Wow. I'm sure the RHD helped fetch that. You're right, a year ago, it probably would have sold for half.
Before the upswing, there were usually about 10 TR's on Ebay at any given time. That number dropped down to half in the winter/spring of 2015. Now its back up to 10 as of today. So you could say that TR inventory is back up to pre rise levels but the asking prices still continue to rise for median TR. Since us plebeians arent privy to the actual sales prices, its hard to get an actual lock on 'values' in a dollar amount. But I think the overall trend is still going North just based on asking prices. On the Classic Trader site, there are 7 TR's for sale with an average asking price of $142,000. Four of them have mileage in the 40k range and 3 have sub 10k miles. None of the descriptions mention any sort of recent service. On the IAG (foxyroxy) website, they only have three TR's and 1 512TR for sale. On has 500 miles, one is the metallic green and the other has 50k miles IIRC. With a few exceptions, the prune colored TR being one, I dont see the same TR's popping back on Ebay week after week. Remember the white TR at Domani with the Italian stripes, 17 cavalinos and a wing? They obviously saw our comments and made the cosmetic changes which resulted in a sale. Last asking price was $129k. I think TR's are still changing hands. The lowest priced TR's I found today are in the $90k. neighborhood. Just giving a barometer on whats going on today.
Who wants to see a sub $65k Testarossa? Not me.. You should have re-read my post that you went ballistic on.. I'm all for the prices going up.. Sorry you don't see that.. Never moaned and certainly don't groan.. What do I know? Nothing.. I think someone asking for $149 and taking $129 is a problem.. You don't just take $20 off the price so either he priced it incorrectly or we have buyers that are not willing to pay asking prices to owners that don't have a clue as to what their vehicles are worth. Yeah asking $149 and taking $140 you have a point.. Not $20 less.. that raises a flag for me... I never said a bubble existed.. Don't mistake me for Brad.. He is preaching the bubble.. How can we discuss common sense when you don't even have enough sense to realize who your having dialogue with... I would just like to see some consistency on the prices.. Right now they are all over the place which has me worried. inconsistent figures are not good when trying to properly insure and obtaining a correct agreed upon value. I've been pushing the TR from day 1.. When the car was considered taboo and a service nightmare. The car has been great to me and not looking for another TR to replace my old one.... A lot of the TR owners in this forums are good people and to say that I wish prices take dive is disgusting and invalid.. Know your roll pal.. Your a member since 2003 with over 17,000 posts.. F1 World Champ under you user name.. start acting like it!! Wake up.. R
Not that eBay is the best indicator of anything, but just in response to this particular comment about the same cars popping back up week after week. Here are some of the usual suspects that have been hanging around for a while. They get pulled for a week or so and then pop right back up. Note also that I'm missing a few weeks from last month where I wasn't logging the listings. Included here are the gold car, the prugna car, the 500-mile/as-new car, the black Lambo Houston car, the ex-JoeZaff car, etc. ZFFSG17A9K0081982 1989 Ferrari Testarossa Ended: Jun 01, 2015 $100,200 (reserve not met) 29 bids Ended: Jun 11, 2015 $74,100 (reserve not met) 4 bids Ended: Jun 22, 2015 $70,100 (reserve not met) 2 bids Ended: Jul 14, 2015 $90,300 (reserve not met) 8 bids Ended: Jul 25, 2015 $70,100 (reserve not met) 2 bids Ended: Jul 27, 2015 $??? IMHO the lucky TR buyers under $100,000 are going to look brilliant in three short years. I believe their investments will outpace stocks in the longer term. Plus the added joy of having a remarkable automobile in their garage that they can enjoy driving. I expect as people pay down debt, college and wedding bills that disposable income will be put into F cars, like the TR. my neighbor, CEO of a successful company and his partner are considering investing in collectable Ferraris now (per his email today) "Hi Al, A friend of mine and I are interested in collecting/investing in foreign cars, especially Ferarri. Is your Ferrari a F430." *my other car is actually a 360 MT. I agree with Mr Chairmans earlier post, BTW. Sent via itty bitty electrons
Admittedly, when folks who can't tell the difference between a 430 and 360 want to jump in, it's speculative. "I like the oceanfront view" "Ahh that's a lake" "Whatever"
They're very serious....it's such a fine line between investors and speculators when the speculator buys the car and comes to appreciate the history and passion that is Ferrari. The recent article regarding re: investing in the Ferrari IPO v a Testarossa is making the rounds and might attract more "speculators." Time will tell. I need to go read the Dino hype threads of five years ago. Sent via itty bitty electrons
El Wayne, Without quoting you (and taking up the bandwidth hahha), you are obviously more up on the Ebay listings than I. A year ago, I would look weekly. Now Im lucky to do a TR search once a month just out of boredom.
I wanted to up my agreed value insurance and I wanted to take the guess work out of this. Since the values seem to be all over the place I decided to get an actual appraisal by a professional/certified appraiser. I did it about two weeks ago. My car is a 1986 with just over 48000 miles on it. I have all the records since day one and it has had about 8 owners I believe. All original with the exception of exhaust and stereo. The bottom black pieces have been painted red from original black. I will probably bring it back to black at some point. It has the 16 inch wheels and I do have the original metric set as well. Exterior is a 9 and interior is 7-8 in my opinion. There is normal wear for 48000 miles. All service is up to date with a fresh engine out. The appraiser ranked it between a high 2 and a low 1 on his scale of 1-5. I think he was being a bit generous because he was in awe when he saw the car! I would put it at 2 on his scale. His appraisal report came back at $119,500. So just about $120,000. I wanted to share this info in the hopes of helping this thread. If any of you fellow Testarossa owners who are verified here would like to see a copy of the report, pm me and I'll be happy to email you a copy.
I wonder what kind of valuation difference there would have been if your Testarossa was a 1 owner example vs having 8 owners?
That's an interesting question. I'm guessing higher? But who knows and by how much. Or maybe the same. After lookin at the records I'm actually owner number 6.
Although Im a big fan of normal mileage combined with proper maintenance, Im willing to bet having almost 50K on the clock was a ding to this appraiser. I would ask him what factors were a negative affect on the overall value in his mind. Regardless, thanks for the snap shot Amir.
