Hi guys, in my constantly moving mind is boiling another project I've had for some years now and if I want to do it I'd have to sell a car to raise funds.

The 308 would probably be the one I'd sell. So I'd like to have sincere and honnest opinions on the value of my car as it sits right now.

First I want to say I LOVE my 308 but I have a bad habbit of letting project sit for too long sometimes and it is the case of my 308 right now.

It is a 1977 308 GTB non cats model #22063. I bought the car is Arizona in 1999 with zero rust. I can't remember the exact miles but it show less than 30k miles.

I bought it with older body damage from a loss of control and I guess was written off back then but that was some 15 years before I bought it so it has no record of it anywhere and been sitting since. I bought it non running because of that. Ownership is clean of anything and has always been.

I repaired the car and drove it for many years and love it. The engine have always been running like a king. Transmission smooth as silk even when cold. I had only refreshed the engine from the outside, rebuilt the carbs, replace fuel hoses, new belts and cam seals etc.

About 3 years ago coming back from a friends place the coolant just blew out of the expansion tank. This decided me to take the engine out and have a look inside the engine and refresh it if needed. So I removed the engine and lifted the heads with absolutely no problems. They came off like they were installed last month. Cylinder liners look new with no ridges at all. Covered the engine with a blanket and it's been sitting there since.

It has brand new seat upholstery that as never been sit on.

Car was originally silver on red but I painted it red when I did it back in 1999.
Paint is in very good condition but would need wetsand and polish because of orange peel. Some spots are done but not the entire car. When I did the paint car was down to bare metal, epoxy primed, than high solid built up primer and sat for a few months. Than block sanded and primed again and sat again.

So the base of the paint job is very good but the final coat of urethane doesn't have the best finish.

So the car has been sitting inside, covered with the engine out in my heated garage since then.

Real euro bumper fitted in the back and a hand made euro style in front with a deep spoiler.

No tools, no history before me, only the owner manual with no pouch. Original 14 inches wheels with good tires but old. I still have the original XWX that were on the car.

So smog system and has aftermarket exhaust.

What do you guys think that car would sell for?

My short answer is i have no idea.

The problem might be that you dont konw the condition of the engine, although I personally believe you it ran becuase I think you are a good guy.

    $20k?

    <hope I didn't hurt feelings>

More importantly, what is your new project?

Honestly if I put new head gaskets and drop the motor in I'm ready to drive it anywhere. For $20K I'll keep looking at it for many more years.

My project is a personnal aircraft.

I have no idea either. Probably depends a lot on the buyer, but my guess, for what it is worth, is $30-40k. Car looks nice, by the way.

I think given current sell prices a dealer would be interested, and would get into the 30s, maybe 40K??

Forget the accident damage as it does not track to the 5 digit VIN.
Or finsh it, to "any type of standard" but get it rolling again.

My advice from my recent experience.

I think it's worth more than 20, but to the right kind of buyer, like me; but you would have to educate that person in detail about your mods like "hand made front bumper" and what you think was wrong with the cooling system when you pulled the engine.

I think you would be better off financially if you got it back together running etc and then sold it.

That's exactly what I was gonna say. If it's easy to get running do that and then put it up for sale. I think the difference in price could be pretty substantial.

Yes I know running car sells much better and at better price. The problem is it's been sitting for 3 years now and I never work on it. I should kick my butt and do it. I allready have a very serious buyer in my friend who always wanted it and he just told me minutes ago to never sell it without telling him. He offered me $35k cdn as is 2 years ago. And he know the car very well. He was the last to use the car for two weeks before I removed the motor, it happened coming back from his home. But the market has changed since. ???

Well I didn't say an "even trade"..

But, for me. I am ready to face a whole new set of problems...I guess we could call it "308 Fatigue"

There was one in Florida that would have been $90K, all in.
Low miles recent service, snazzy wheels...parked next to a Diablo...all positive signs!!

I think you would be many dollars ($20K-$40K?) ahead to even send it to a known engine builder and have it reassembled, then sell it. I think you will leave a great deal of money on the table if all it really needs is the engine reassembled and installed, and wet sanding and polishing. A 77 GTB is definitely a sweet spot model wise.

    Good day Claude,

As others has said... assembling the car will provide you with the best return. Remember that a car in pieces presents risk to a buyer (potential missing/misplaced pieces, no real way of testing evaluating the engine, transmission, etc) and so this will put downward pressure on the sale price.

If you do not have the time to reassemble, then send the car to Paul (Newman) ... As you know Paul works lightning fast!

    Cheers,

    Sam
