Sadly the thread is very short but the poster appeared to be contemplating the restoration of a 308 GTB and a 308 GTS. He (Jorge Orwell) is on the other side (FLife) but I don't think he is on FChat. My apologies if this had been posted before but I haven't seen it... Chew-The-Fat.org.uk ? View topic - Ferrari 308 GTB . . . it's a bit of a mess pt1 Image Unavailable, Please Login
I lóve these stories. "Project" cars of which the majority says something like "you're a fool/money-pit/rediculous/spare parts", and that one guy saying "Well, yes, of course it can be done !". And he is right, it is always a matter of time for the person that can do (the most of) the bodywork. I love people who don't give up/persevere/get (in the end) the job done. And what a nice object to prove one's point to ! I could not do it, so I'd have to pass, but getting such a car back on the road is a tribute to the 308 !!
Our hero does state that he's not trying to produce a Concours entrant but a car that can be driven and enjoyed.
For the time and money he will have in it he can buy a nice driver for less and be using it instead of making excuses to the wife about all the time in the garage.
If I had a car like this for a proper price I'd do it. I've restored cars worst than that in my Québec rusty life. ANYTHING can be restored.
Looks like a good project. It's only metal and a good welder and panel beating will put it right . Restored many project worst than this. Wish I had it to restore.
If the price was right, and a complete rebuild of the basic mechanical bits wasn't needed. Also if I didn't already have one. Cheers, Rich
This. Unless the car has sentimental value, and time and money aren't an issue, I would keep looking.
I would not personally because I don't want to invest the time; but some people just want a fascinating project on which to use their skills. There are still solid-bodied cars and decent drivers out there as others have said. Something like this might make more sense financially if the market really goes nut-so in the future.
If I had the time and resources I would restor that car - THEN I would turbo or supercharge the crap out of it. I would put a wild paint scheme on it and drive the crap out of it!!! PDG
Hi Jorge, Welcome to FChat, it's always great when a real connection is made (especially when I find that my original comments weren't derisory ) Please put us out of our misery! It's 2 years since you updated that website, what happened next?
I'm one of those. I get a lot of joy out of doing the restoration. I enjoy hunting for parts. And sure, my car will never be a concorse car, but that is not why I bought it. I didn't buy it for an investment, I bought it because I wanted a Magnum 308.
