While some might be surprised about the Raikkonen pick, I think he really suited the old Formula before the engines became turbo hybrids with KERS. He's an old school driver and the F2004 was an old school car.

    All the best,
    Andrew.

One was quiet and brilliantly consistent on the limit.

The other was outspoken and surly but brilliant driving OVER the limit.

    Great drivers, both

I like the pairing with Colin Chapman too...one of the greatest innovators of F1 (though this resulted in fatalities too often).

I'd take the F2002 as my car though.

I do not understand picking a car, perhaps a designer, but not a car.

Chapman too often designed over the limit. But, there is no doubting his genius and his impact on the sport.

Chapman was the limit.... i think had he lived ( and stayed out of prison ) he would have moved into aero space more than cars. F-1 was pissing him off with outlawing his designs... twin chassis, ground effects ( skirting ) etc... he did not like the whole Turbo route ... but i suspect that he would have come up with some awsome designes with active suspension ... I have no doubt that Lotus with Chapman and Senna would have beaten Prost and McLaren and Williams in 85 - 86 - 87 ...

    +1

IIRC, Ayrton was the *only* guy Colin ever put as an "equal" to Jimmy.

He liked & had immense respect for Mario, but never the "love" he had for the first two.

    Cheers,
    Ian

I'm not sure to follow you on that one, Ian?
I mean, how could this have been chronologically possible: Ayrton was driving in Formula Ford 2000 in 1982, and ACBC died on Dec 16th, 1982.
Even if Anthony Colin Bruce Chapman could have spotted Ayrton's early talent, he would surely not have put him on par with Jimmy Clark at that stage, Ayrton having not even had a test in a Formula One yet?

I obviously do not recall correctly!....... My bad, you're right.

Who am I thinking of? [I do recall him only putting only one guy on a par with Jimmy, but am obviously mistaken in that it was Ayrton. Can't for the life of me think who though.]

    Cheers,
    Ian

I like the car too, the most beautifyll of the "T" series....but the least successfull one...although i believe the problem was more to do with the michelin tires than the chassis itself...

At Jimmy's funeral, his mother told Dan Gurney that he was the only one that Jimmy feared.
To which Gurney usually answered later, when reminded of this: "perhaps...but it surely didn't feel so at the time!" Great guy, that Dan Gurney.

You will have first to explain to some people what "chronological" means.

    LOL

    That's not very nice!

I admitted I was wrong. No problem.

Just wish I could recall who it was that Colin put on a par with Jimmy.

Nero - I don't think it was Dan, although I'd read that story about Jimmy's mum saying that long ago.

    Cheers,
    Ian

Could've been Ronnie Peterson or Maybe Jochen Rindt even though they had quite the interesting relationship.

I think it was a Scott who had already offered drives to Jimmy and wanted now to buy a Lotus Elite.
This guy (can't remember the name now) brought him at a test session in South England where Chapman was putting some single seaters throught their pace.
Apart from testing the Elite, Clark was told to try the F Junior, and immediatly felt at ease with it.
Chapman was impressed by his regularity and ability to adapt.

presque - cetait le pere de Clark qui a dire que Dan cetait le seul personne que Jimmy a pur et la respecter.

almost - it was Jim Clarks father who told Dan Gurney that he was the only guy Jimmy feared when racing ... and that he had great Respect for Gurney. ( heard Dan telling that story live to Bob Varsha several years ago)

Clark started racing with Ecurie Ecosse racing a 356 Porsche, then Jaguar, and then Aston Martin. He raced Astons only and last Aston. F-1 car, then went to Lotus with Chapman. at the same time Jimmy Stewart ( brother to Jackie ) was also racing. that is how both Jim and Jackie were close friends.

Stirling Moss brought Jim Clark to Rob Walkers attention - and from there to Chapman. Walker's team was running new Elites ... so that i think is where youre story picks up.
