This picture is from the side of the front hood on an 85QV.

    Anyone see this before?

IIRC older cars had 3 digit build codes on cetain body panels.

Just curious if this is in fact correct or maybe a replacement ?

    Thanks,

    Bob

My first thought but it is in the "wrong" spot.

If this helps the stamp is on the left side edge of the front bonnet.

Also, should this stamp match with any other numbers on the car?

    Thanks,

    Bob

The definitive number for your car is stamped in the metal near your coolant tank and coil voltage warning sticker as shown in the first picture of the linked assembly # thread above. It should match.

In my QV it was also written in a marker or grease pen on both doors on the painted metal under the panels, and on some masking tape covering the relays (not sure if it was typical for this to be left on, but it was there on my low-mileage garage queen when I bought it). May very well be in other locations as well.

    This is interesting.

2281GT what model and year is your car?

I've also heard that 328's have the body stamp on the left side of the hood edge as well, amongst the other usual places.

I haven't noticed this on my 83 QV. I have to look when I get it back from the shop.

there are things you will find on a ferrari you wont find on anything else you owned in the past.

    It doesn't translate into negitive.

    Its a factory stamp.

and yes everyone else go look around your car you have these too

Indeed this stamp on my hood matches the body stamp next to the coolant tank and also written on a sticker behind the fuse panel door.

Good way to tell if a car's been in a bad accident as well.

    Thanks everyone,

    Bob

On my car, it's clear there's a stamped number, however, the factory wrinkle paint is thick enough I can't make out the digits. In the interest of retaining or hurting resale value, any thoughts on scraping the factory black paint away to reveal the build code?
