Anyone Buying the 2016 NSX?

I have never been a fan of Japanese cars but I am enthused by the new NSX. An exotic looking sports car with the reliability of an Accord. I like others have said can't wait to see the specs. I sold my 355 because it wore me out repairing it. I love 458's and hear that they are worlds better than older Ferrari's but still hearing about headaches. It would be nice to just do oil changes.

 

The Honda version without the electrics if it coems out, sounds like a better bet.

3700 lbs is too heavy to be taken seriously, unless paper specs and one lap wonders are the measure.

 

NSX is still a "Future Vehicle" on Acura web site. Really? No basic tech specs still?

If it makes 550+ horsepower McLaren sure is going to have trouble selling their "sport" series

 

Two different animals.
Plus which is faster a 570hp 3100lbs car or a 600hp 3600lbs car.
No one is expoliting any of these cars talents on the street, and on track after 3-4 laps the lighter car will fare better as the weight of the heavier car uses it up.

I guess paper spec sells cars.

IMO a large portion of NSX buyers will simply be buying it cuz Honda is making it

 

IMO I think most of the sales will go to the "latest and greatest" crowd and then buzz off after two to three years. Unfortunately. I don't know why I'm so negative towards the new one because I really, really love the original. Badge doesn't matter to me, but I know it does for most supercar buyers (an emotional thing).

On the other hand, we who dreamed of the original NSX have become adults so maybe a fair share will actually buy the second generation after missing the boat with the first one?

I can't wait for the test drives.

 

I owned the original NSX in the late 90s - awesome car - but I'm not going near the new one.

To me it has the same issue as the Audi R8 - it's a nice sportscar, but it's just too much money for a brand every soccer mom drives. If I drop drop $200k on a car, I just want something more than an everyday brand. It just makes the car feels less special.

Buying anything $200k+ isn't just about numbers to me.

Had a 1st gen drive past my office window this morning. Simple, reliable and nice on the eyes!

 

Sweet I had three previous gen NSX's all of them great fun to drive

 

Would that also apply to a Ford GT? Plenty of soccer moms drive Fords. Just askin'

 

The Ford GT didn't have a $200k+ price. It was $140k at launch.

However the GT was also a much more limited car created on a historical model, rather than eg the R8 which is more bland (and just another production line model with "unlimited" numbers). The same goes for the Lexus LFA which is more of a collector's item.

 

Funny you say that as I was considering waiting for the new NSX or getting something else now pre-owned. I looked at and drove a bunch of cars and decided on an AUDI! I bought a 2012 R8 GT instead of McLaren 12C or a 458. I decided I wanted something reliable and a little low key and I think Audi has somewhat proven itself as a premium brand what with a few successful races in LMP1 and GT. And the GT model is sufficiently interesting enough for me as a DD.

 

I think most people in this market will cross shop Porsche tt, r8, nsx, 570s, along with used Ferrari, lambo. theyre all mid engine sports cars in same price point. how can you not?

 

The production date got delayed for around 6 month, due to little glitches the team found during the tour across the U.S. Quite dissapointing but hope they will sort things out. The car is also on display at the Quail.

 

An article on the delay; to me, this car sort of makes Acura look bad - repeated teasers/false starts and now inability to meet deadlines.

disappointing but to be expected when trying to offer everything million dollar Porsche offers at 80% discount.

Right. It will only be down about 300 hp. And from a pure performance standpoint, I am willing to bet the current 991 GT3 Will turn faster laps, especially after three or four laps are in the bank and the NSX's battery is depleted and turned into ballast.

But it's all speculation; Acura can't even announce the specifications yet

 

At this point I would call this car an unmitigated disaster. It sort of mirrors their F1 return no? Trouble with hybrid electric systems and all.....

Acura has really been on the decline for about 10 years. My 2005 TL was the last cool car they made. It was fast, looked good and reliable. Everything else since has been silly. I was behind a brand new RLX today and it looked just like a 2010 Toyota Avalon. I've had 3 Acuras: 2 Integras (one a Type R that was stolen) and the TL. I hope they get their designs and their rollouts fixed. Corporate bureaucracy has hurt them no doubt.

 

I would not go that far. But it is like the boy who cried "new supercar"

Saw the red car at McCall and the full lineup at Quail. It really does look great. But it doesn't look like $150k, or like it should cost anything more than a GT-R for that matter.

10 years coming, I really hope this thing impresses. If it's anything less than excellent, it's going to be the biggest joke of the sportscar community.
