You're not too far off early California prices. And since you always wanted a 4 passenger Ferrari, maybe it's a good time?

Considered it. Business is a challenge right now and while I think I'll come back in a big way, prudence demands I do something practical for the moment. Somewhat anyway. Only have $50k wrapped up in a 2012 650i vert. Mayhap next stop will be a Cali 30 in a couple years.

Another $20k and you'll be in an M6 convertible of the same platform...with very similar performance to the 599.
    Sorry for the upsell though...

I want xdrive which isn't available in the M. Besides, the performance of the 650 is plenty. But the color combos I'll accept are tough too so I'm open to a rwd. Actually have a deposit on one I'll probably follow through on.

The 599 is a big car..in fact it's rather huge. Great cars and all, but to me, they don't feel like a Ferrari. They feel (I hate to say this) a bit corvetteish. They lost something with that car. Maybe that's why prices are sinking.

Funny thing is for an old american muscle car guy like me who delved into Ferrari's middle age, I not only agree with you but like that about the 599.

The Aperta, GTO and gated 599's are all appreciating beautifully, so at least from that perspective they seem loved and appreciated by those in a better bracket than I as well. Don't seem to be suffering for the size.

The dealer should be able to show you documentation from a computer printout that you have the correct ECU/TCU. The version should come up in the header information when the ECU/TCU is probed. I would ask the dealer to show you a printout from their computer of the rev of the ECU/TCU.

There are other aspects to the HGTE performance package other than the F1 shift speeds. I am no expert, but I do know that the throttle response is improved with the HGTE performance package upgrade.

Per Terry some time ago, any car before around serial number 156938 has the older motronics and cannot accept the HGTE ECU's. But again, who cares. Not trying to be flippant about it, but without a frame of reference, a bunch of seat time, experience tracking the 599 before and after and trying really, really hard to notice, I seriously doubt you could discern the difference between F1-S and F1-S HGTE, or in the throttle response which is already terrific in the base 599.
