I think a reason the 997.1 RS is getting so valuable, among others, and in particular relative to the 997.2 RS, is that aesthetically it's the best of the lot. Simply put, it looks the best and least contrived of them all, including the 991 version. Looks count for a lot when significant models age. How else can you explain the values of, say, a Ferrari Dino? From a technical and performance standpoint no...but look at how damn beautiful that car is - and everyone has figured it out....
That will always be a subjective matter of opinion. Let me guess, you own a 997.1 RS right? That's the nice thing about a forum, you can champion the cause of the car you happen to own, and that's what generally happens. Nothing wrong with that. Ive gone to not inconsiderable lengths throughout this entire thread is have a fair representation of all the variants as much as possible, and have tried to stay away from proclamations of "the best". This way the thread remains an objective appreciation for all variants of the GT3 RS, and thus it makes lovers of all variants feel welcome. From a personal standpoint, I will say there are some things I love about every single variant, and some things I don't care for in every variant. None of them are perfect. But we love them all, for different reasons. Just like our kids!

Let me guess, you own a 997.1 RS, the variant you previously claimed spends less time in the shop and is more reliable than the other variants, right?

They are all great cars and this is a great thread so....let's just concentrate on the cars and enjoy the pics.... Certainly didn't mean to "start anything" that detracts from ANY RS! Best...
Great attitude, Bobby! Thank you for enjoying the thread, and in my book, your (rare) 2008 Green 3.6 RS is stunning. How about some pics?
No, just calling you out for making totally false claims. A guy called Radrickroth used to troll here till he got banned. He came back as Retro Metal and got banned again...
Perhaps only because the last two sales results posted were auction results of 997.1 cars within the last month. I would guess that had a 997.2 gone to auction it would have yielded results beyond what we are seeing in the market as well. The other possibility is that the winning bidders don't really know the difference between the two.
As far as I know the 997 GT3 RS 1 does still have the much praised 'Mezger' engine and the 3.6 does not. So that would make a Gen1 a more desired model, at least in my opinion. This 996 Road Challenge GT3 RS factory rally-car (one of 10) also has a Mezger engine. Next week it will be road legal - I hope.. Erik Image Unavailable, Please Login
I've never, even for a moment, been fond of a purple car...but it just works on the new RS. [ame]http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=RyNzJkNMAi8[/ame]
Sorry Erik, but your information is wholly incorrect (not to mention, contradictory). There seems to be a lot of opinion-based misinformation going around! The much-vaunted 'Mezger' engine came to the end of its era with the 4.0 RS, this is common-knowledge amongst the Rennsport faithful. There is a reason the car pictured below has the license plate that it does. I agree with your feeling that an RS with a Mezger engine is desirable, and as such, this applies to the 996 GT3 RS, 997 3.6 RS, 997 3.8 RS and 997 4.0 RS. In fact it applies to all RS from 2.7 RS to 4.0 RS. Anyhow, its a fascinating & important subject, one which we have covered in some detail in this thread, and I draw your attention to the following links, some of which I hope will be helpful: http://www.ferrarichat.com/forum/143952521-post4282.html http://www.ferrarichat.com/forum/143952531-post4284.html http://www.ferrarichat.com/forum/143952533-post4285.html http://www.ferrarichat.com/forum/143952536-post4286.html http://www.ferrarichat.com/forum/143952537-post4287.html http://www.ferrarichat.com/forum/143952540-post4288.html http://www.ferrarichat.com/forum/143952544-post4289.html http://www.ferrarichat.com/forum/143952552-post4290.html http://www.ferrarichat.com/forum/143952564-post4292.html http://www.ferrarichat.com/forum/143953258-post4298.html http://www.ferrarichat.com/forum/143953259-post4299.html http://www.ferrarichat.com/forum/143953260-post4300.html http://www.ferrarichat.com/forum/143953280-post4304.html Image Unavailable, Please Login
