How to Remove Oil Pressure sending Unit

Remove the oil filter base

 

A little heat on the wrench will let you bend to fit.

 

IIRC I used a shortened 22mm wrench and didn't even have to remove the oil filter. - I assume you are talking about the pressure sender and not about the pressure switch. For the latter I actually had to remove the filter. -

It was cramped, but it worked.
Used a cheap wrench and cut off the other end. No bending necessary.

Remove the base, and replace the old gasket when replacing the base. It does not take long and you will not futz anything up. Let her sit overnight and wrap a towel around the base as you pull it up, as there may be a slight bit of oil still in housing.

Obviously, take the oil line off first.

I think after a cold beverage or two, I managed to break old sender free with a pair of channel locks on the body of the sender. I am fairly certain I removed the filter for a little more access. And I used a stubby to tighten the new one down. May have dropped the overflow hose too. In my case, I didn't remove the filter base.

 

Mike, either way you do this would you mind terribly taking pictures along the way? Love to add such pictures (with your permission, of course) next to RifleDriver's in our modern oil pressure sender kit instructions.

 

A crow's foot may work?

 

I think I used a crow's foot on mine. I remember looking for the right size and the only place I could find it was in a full set at Sears. The whole set is in my tool box and I honestly don't think I've ever used any of them for anything else.

 

I used a monkey wrench to get the old one off (destroying it), then a pipe strap wrench to put the new one on. No leaks!. If you buy some gaskets taking the base off is probably much smarter but not absolutely necessary. I got one of the last original senders from allferparts.

It was fairly easy to just pull the filter base and bench the adapter to remove the pressure sender. And it gives you a chance to clean things up in that area.

 

Also very useful for removing the dip stick base!

I have this job as my sender just went bad. Time for a trip to get some tools

did an ugly thing a couple of years ago and easily removed the sender with a small pipe wrench on the body- didn't feel too guilty since it was being replaced with a new one. no serious damage to the body of the sender. sure was easier than the oil filter mount removal but crude cheers. jon s

 

Monkey wrench. Done in 1 min!

 

Pipe strap wrench works perfect. No leaks and no damage to sensor

 

Crowsfoot wrenches are tools you use once every five years.... And are just so useful then that you forgive them the five years free lodging in your toolbox.
