yeap there is actually....i had a torn cv boot and my local mechanic applied a gasket sealant and it sealed the small cracks for a bit till i got my new boots...... the seal depends on how big your tear is.....i doubt they'll hold up big cracks.....also depending on how much grease is left in there.....if loads have come out, i suppose get it changed since you already have the parts in your hand.....any good mechanic with the right basic tools should be able to change it for ya.....

    Hmmmm....
Duct tape vs saran wrap vs split boot
Sounds like subject matter for the Stooge technical staff. We need to set some parameters for testing. :)

Just wanted to throw my 2 cents here.

I tried both ghetto fixes mentioned above. I tried the split boot kit but could not find/trim one to fit properly.

I tried cutting an oem boot and gluing it, but the boot is a tight fit on the shaft and just couldn't get the glue to set.

    Both epic fails.

In the end, I pulled the axle and did it the right way. I have never done a job like this before and although it took me 5 times what it probably should it is not technically difficult. It's literally maybe 10 bolts and you can pull it out.

I did it on jack stands without any air tools. Here are some tips or suggestions I learned.

The axle nut is 36mm. You will need something to chisel the bent tabs out. Once chiseled I played trampoline on the end of a 20" breaker bar and it didn't budge. Some liquid wrench and a $30 electric impact from harbor freight and it was off in seconds. Have new replacement nuts in hand.

You'll need a torque wrench capable of 275 NM to reinstall the axle nut.

The bolts to the transmission flange take a 13mm 12 point socket. You can access them from the top of the engine with the air boxes removed to loosen them. I found the best way to tighten them is from underneath with the under panel removed.

When reinstalling them apply molykote 1000 to them and torque all once to 40 NM and then a second time to 78 NM.

I also bought new bolts. $1.50 ea from the dealer.

Boot kit from AW Italian. $132. Great source for parts.

Have a case of brake cleaner on hand and lots of rags. Latex gloves too. Clothes you will never wear again. This job is messy.

Read up on various threads and if you're lucky enough to have some of the more knowledgable members to lean on, you should be all set.

Much easier to remove/install through the wheel well with a long extension. Boot kit from Superformance is about $60 delivered.

The kit from AW Italian includes both boots and end caps for the transmission side CV.

If you want just one boot Superformance sells them for about $20 shipped.

Has anyone tried the Pegasus shielded CV boots? I've read in past threads that they have a reduced range of flex, but is anyone running those? I went with the OEM kit from AWitalian, but I may go this way if I find my CV boots have short life. Impressions/opinions on the Pegasus? Thanks in advance!
