this is the single latch version right above the brake booster, isn't it? Like discussed before - and I made the same mistake - he has two latches.
BTW; No chance to reach the latch from under the dash.

    Best Regards
    Martin

Nick..THIS IS IT! This is exactly what happened...you nailed it.

...the latch was accidentally 'closed' before you shut the hood and you jammed it by pushing the hood forcibly down...

Now..how can I get it open? And yes, I already have a flexible boroscope :)

I don't think that is possible...the cam that latches, if it was already in the closed position, would present a flat bar top surface and there is no way the hood rod could go in!!

I have extra hoods, hack it open.....

    j/k

I also agree it would be extremely hard to reach the interior bolts that hold the hinge at the radiator, but that may be a better way to go at it, after removing the inner fenders??

Guys, just imagine you adjusted the latch too low and when it clicked in to place it is so tight it won't release. Under that premise...how do we get it open?

Push down like a gorilla on the hood while pulling the release.

If you were going to cut it open with a torch anyway then maybe a dent is better than a hole.

Easy for me to say, not my hood :). Good luck :)

Ok...I got it! No dents, no scratches, no errors! Fixed!

First, I had to get it open. I took a ratcheting tie down strap and ran one end through the emergency release and the other end through the seat belt mechanism. I ratcheted it tight to hold the emergency release in its pulled or "open" position. I then continued to pull, going so far as to stand on the strap to get more pressure...NOTHING!

I then went to the hood and pushed and pulled up and down trying to get it loose. NO LUCK! Then went back inside and stood on the strap and lo and behold...POP...hood opened!

I then examined the two mechanisms and decided to raise their adjustment up so getting stuck would not be possible. Checked the levers with hood open. Looked and felt good. Closed the hood...and....BINGO...stuck again!!!

Went back for the strap...worked for 30 minutes again and got the hood open again. So, the question is...why is it sticking in the closed position. Upon further examination, I got it!!!

There are two adjusting bolts that adjust the height of your mechanism...well guess what...if you tighten them down too much, they will squeeze the mechanism and when you close the hood the latch is so tight that it will not release. The fix? Loosen the adjusting bolts till they just hold the mechanism where you want it and "DO NOT OVER TIGHTEN"!

That's it...fixed! Thanks for all your hints, suggestions and help! Chaya

Glad you got it. I was extremely careful and nervous the first time closing my rear deck after I had redone boot area including cleaning and reinstalling the latches. I didn't want to end up in this same situation. :)

    Cool!

    Happy Ending.

Though you left out the cursing and swearing part between it getting stuck again and spending 30 min to get it to release a second time :)

    Hey guys -

I wanted to revive this thread, and add some additional info that I didn't find in any of my searches.
Background - '85 QV. About a month ago, my front hood became stuck - passenger side latch released, but driver side stuck. I jiggled, finessed, yanked the hood release over the last month, to no avail. Same with the emergency cable - nothing.
Finally, I pulled extra hard on the lever tonight, and the offending hood latch popped open. So, I lubed both latches with white lithium grease, and tried to figure out why the driver latch stuck. After inspecting the cable between the two latches, I finally figured out what had happened. The cable had gotten stuck behind/under the brake reservoir cap. At least on my car, the cable runs between the latches and lays directly across the brake reservoir cap. I have had an intermittent brake leak in the right rear caliper recently, and had topped of the brake reservoir a few times over the last couple of months. The last time I must have pushed the cable out of the way to get cap back on.
Once I laid the cable back across the reservoir, the hood opens and closes normally. I have taken a picture to show how my cable is routed.
Really hopes this helps someone else!

Now, back to troubleshooting my brake leak....
