Good article. While I fully accept responsibility and the risk associated with driving in an open cockpit, I can't imagine how hard it would be to lose one of your drivers, or your child, to a freak accident. Regarding Henry Surtees - do they run wheel tethers in F2 now?
Good summary article of the state of affairs on jalopnik: Justin Wilson's Fatal IndyCar Crash Re-Ignites The Closed Cockpit Debate
Compare the number of deaths from head injuries to potential fire in modern cars. A canopy would be even faster to dispose of than the current cockpit horse collar.
How is it easier to dispose of if you are upside down or if it is damaged? I think Simona de Silvestro would disagree with you. 5 starts at the 500; been on fire 3 times.
This is really cool - drivers at finale donating their helmets to auction for Wilson's kids. Also some cool tshirts and stickers available that benefit his children: Outpouring of support for family 'overwhelming'
Finally got a chance to dig a bit in my archive and found this pic of Wilson in his Minardi at Imola 2003. RIP Image Unavailable, Please Login
