The common theme here is how far do you go with the safety measures before it is not a sport at all. The answer is when the number of preventable deaths becomes one too many for the drivers, the fans and the owners.

Tradition be damned: Fix the open-cockpit cars

Tradition be damned: Fix the open-cockpit cars - IndyCar News

Everything about the cars has changed since open cockpits made sense, except for protecting the driver's head. That must end.

IMHO, Closed cockpits are getting support, instead of what the traditionalists have to say.

Technically speaking, an F1 car is designed to complete a set distance in the fastest time possible.

A LeMans GT prototype is designed to go the furthest distance possible in a set amount of time.

Where the two race categories meet is when you have a GT race that is based on a set distance rather than a set time.

(I get where you're coming from though, essentially what people are calling for with enclosed canopies, covered wheels etc., etc., is less what F1 is about and more what GT cars are about! ;) )

Yet another one I could argue both ways!...... ;)

I do think they're trying to put the driver 'back in charge' & driving the thing 'alone & unaided', as per the regs.

Having said that, that's a pretty long list of stuff that remains legal!...... Baby steps.

    Cheers,
    Ian

    Virtual F1 racing...now that's a great idea.

It'll be a battle of software engineers exploiting loopholes in the laws of physics.
