I have a 1986 Flying Mirror TR that I bought about 25 years ago. It has both a left and right hand flying mirror. Was the right hand mirror an option back then or something that was available through Ferrari dealers parts departments? Is it rare to have both mirrors? Any information will be greatly appreciated. Thank you.

There was such owner demand, that Ferrari made the part.

It does rather negate the rarity of the "high single mirror" feature, which was part of the unique aspect of the design in the first place.
I guess as that ad shows, they needed a RH mirror for the original single mirror RHD cars.

I never really put that much thought into it, until now...:D

So, the RHD cars that have two, did the reverse.

There are those who are adamant this was an option from the factory for a short while.
Two high mirrors on a TR - FerrariChat.com

If the passenger mirror is electrically adjustable from the console, then I think that lends some credence to it being done at the factory because it would be an awful lot of trouble to go to aftermarket.

The OP should correct me if I'm wrong here but you probably can't see **** from the passenger side 'flying mirror' because the A-pillar obstructs your view.

I never understood what the big fuss was about. You have a neck, use it. The outward visibility in the TR is fantastic.

    I think you're right Sandy.

I have a twin high mirror, single-wheel-bolt car in Australia. It is electrically operated both sides with an extra bezel around the toggle switch which rotates towards either side.

It was a UK (therefore RHD), ordered factory car and was from there delivered new in Australia.

My feel is it is absolutely factory as everything else on the car was and at least this and one other of the 4 cars delivered in the initial RHD batch into this country were both twin high mirrors. Similarly, they had centrally mounted roof aerials in that batch.

No you can't see out of the passenger side without leaning over to the centre, but the passenger can.....

I have only seen one early TR with the twin flying mirrors, and it definatly looked like a factory install.

I remember a customer of mine ordered one of the first TR in 84 and he wanted to have 2 mirrors. it was told to him from the factory/dealer: not possible. later he bought a right high mirror and mounted this one to the right side. but I can not rememberif with electrical adjustment or not.
AFAIK: a TR with 2 high mirrors never left the factory.

    Cheers Joe.

I was just about to post to say the only way we will ever know for sure is by speaking to the original owners, so that's reliable info. The same goes for the roof ariels....there must be some "day one" owners left?

    Dom.
