Two years ago I was in Marysville, Ohio and met some of the designers and engineers working on the new NSX. They are determined to put out an outstanding car in the same manner of the first generation that made an impact on the market years ago. If Honda needs to delay to tune it, then delay it. It is too important. Just like Honda was careful with the release of their business jet.

FWIW I drove a completely stock 1991 NSX on an all day drive through the mountains in a group that included a GT2, three 458's, an MP4-12C, a 360, and a Maserati Coupe. This wasn't a casual Sunday drive.

No one found the NSX's performance boring or Accord like. They thought it had been significantly modified, but in fact there were no modifications to it what-so-ever. If you know how to drive an NSX Gen 1 it is a thrill to drive. On paper it appears ho hum, on the road Honda's attention to detail on every component makes the complete package shine. Surprisingly, the key is sticking with the Gen 1 stock components or if one has to modify, replace the OEM parts with lighter components.

I do expect the new NSX to continue to be Accord-like in a couple of areas: reliability, build quality, with low maintenance costs.

It's not breathtaking, too closely resembles the R8, but I kinda like the subtleness of it.

Mark, you have been able to capture in a few words the synergy of the 1st Gen NSX extremely well (kudos to you for that!)

It really does set the tone for the context of the Gen 2 version to a very high level.
That's a lot of pressure for Ted Klaus and his team to deliver.......and I'm hoping that they (against the odds- I'll admit) hit it out of the park.

    Time will tell !

Well Autoweek just released some nice pictures and a review of the NSX and I must say I am quite impressed. Car looks great in black and with 570 HP and listed at approx. 160k will represent a very enticing choice over say a used 12C or 458

r8, 570s, nsx, porsche tt will be a fun comparison test
i would go nsx with its new tech or r8 for its v10 but take a used 458 over all of them

Eeek... 3800 lbs without options. Yet, 0-60 in 3 secs is impressive.

9 speed gearbox??? Pretty soon we will have a gearbox like a Semi. :)

Here's the autoblog review with video

2017 Acura NSX First Drive [w/video]

The price though is quite attractive for what you get, although 170K is still not cheap for a 2 seater, especially one from Japan. To me, it's even more of a GT than what's offered now from Mac and Ferrari and a closer competitor to Porsche and Aston.

The problem is.... a Honda / Acura just doesn't have the romantic appeal of an Aston or Porsche. This is a doctor's car who doesn't want to appear to be too flashy.

I kinda thought the original was more sport and less GT. And it was more "in your face" than "I'm trying to blend in". But, all "super cars" now are really GT's. And, the looks of this car are a bit of an acquired taste-- but not ugly. I wish they had not stolen the McLaren front end look so much and went with something of their own.

I can see this as a great DD, which is what I'm sure they were trying to do.

But hauling around 3800 lbs in the corners does sound a bit iffy to me.... even if the electric motors and computer wizardry tends to mask it.

Motortrend... not so sure. In fact, pretty negative if you read the entire article.

2017 Acura NSX First Drive Review

Imagine our surprise when the first fast corner we attacked with the NSX was met with howling, unfixable-with-the-throttle terminal understeer. There was also absolutely nothing coming through the NSX’s steering. It doesn’t weight up as the front tires approach (and then exceed) their limits of adhesion. The lack of road texture or kickback made it tough to place the front of the NSX on the road or trust it through corners.

There’s a likely reason for the numbness. Torque vectoring at the front axle is a guaranteed recipe for torque steer. Geared to the wheels at 8.5:1, the torque multiplication of the two relatively small motors means they can apply a maximum surpassing 900 lb-ft of torque to the front wheels. And not just in one direction—one wheel can be propelled forward with more than 450 lb-ft while the other is being held back with up to that same force. So of course the NSX’s electric steering system needs to actively filter out that influence, lest the steering wheel be ripped out of your hands. We don’t like the numbness, but at least there’s an engineering reason for it.

The overall level of cornering grip was also slightly disappointing when judged against its peers, but that’s simply a result of the tires Acura chose for the NSX. Its Continental ContiSportContact 5Ps are not the sort of tire you expect to find on a supercar.

Here we are, back to Acura’s somewhat confused mission. Calling the NSX an everyday supercar means, to a rational, literal Honda, that it will be driven every day by Midwestern housewives.

At 3800 lb I am not tempted to part with my 991 GT3 (which was less expensive, anyway) or my "old" 12C (which is over 600 lbs lighter with more power). I am sure this will sell to some extent, I just personally would not pick it over more sporting options that already exist.

The new one looks like a normal sports car not an exotic car. I rather get the new Supra honestly. I personally feel the design of the new one is just meh...

I think the original NSX will be more sought after they launched the new one thus drives up the value of the original NSX. I mean the original NSX was a game changer but this new one has nothing special. I am honestly disappointed with the design. It doesn't represent NSX. Look at 911's and how they evolved - beautifully!

You can see beauty in less than 3 seconds. My first 3 seconds looking at the new NSX I was thinking why she doesn't look anything like her hot older sister? Was she adopted? Lol...

No personal interest in this car.

I did like the original and considered buying one, since I think they represent pretty good value overall. My issue with the original is it just felt a bit like a knock off of a Ferrari (visually) but with a meekness to it, though it has grown on me somewhat. Clearly has a reputation as an excellent driver and reliable too.

The new one... well, I would simply go R8 if I wanted something with those lines.

Agree 100%. I think a used R8 V-10 represents a great value and if you can make the leap get the V-10 Plus with the DCT transmission or find a gated manual earlier car or better yet a 2012 R8 GT which is Audi's version of a Stradale/Scuderia.

I just read the latest Motor Trend mag and it reviewed the new NSX.
Just as I feared the BOD directed the way this supercar was developed.
Just like the last one where the bureaucrats won.
Soichiro would again be pissed and proud at the same time.

I am sure quality, fit, finish and materials are excellent. For me, all of that is very secondary to the driving experience and on paper (and to some extent reviews) it's a bloated GT car at best. Probably unusable on the track in any significant way. Most don't care, but any 2-seater I own better do well on track or I don't want it.
