I'm not expert enough about 308 GTB/S 16" rims: when the Campagnolo/Tecnomagnesio 16" rims were replaced by the Cromodora 16" rims that we have on 308 QV? in other words: which 16" inch rims are correct for my late 1980 GTB?

    thank you very much

    ciao

That's a hard question to answer, Albert.

It is widely held that Cromodora is the oldest of the wheel suppliers, in my experience they are far more widespread in quantity.

But, my very early #22641 came with Campys, but, in my opinion they were a replacement set for the second owner, who knows which actually came with the car in 1977 from the Factory.

I would say, by 1980, BOTH brands were established as suppliers.

Perhaps a PM to our member Rifledriver would yield a better opinion, as he was there "in the day" and was paying attention! I was still in High School....:D :D

In my opinion only, the Campy is a better looking wheel.

They made their own molds for casting, apparently, as the edges of a Campy wheel, around the lug nut contours, are noticably "sharper" to my eyes.

The corners have a sharper edge, if you understand my visual description.
I have a picture in my cell phone, that shows what I describe, I will look for it!

    +1

for the 14" the "rounder edges" are better looking IMO , but for the 16" the sharper edged Campagnolos are better looking - especially for your "sharp" blue sera (and not "soft" red) GTB.

I have watched also as the OEM 16's have crept UP, and UP, and OFF to the sky!!

I am starting on a set of 14" to repaint I will post pictures of the problems.
Any place (on the rear) that the paint wore to the metal, EXTREME corrosion started, and it will take a lot of work, to resolve.

The pressed in lug inserts should also be examined, for stress cracks starting there in the surrounding casting.

    Alberto,
this is what the 6/80 308GTB/GTS spare parts book says:

    14" Campagnolo or Cromodora
    16" Speedline

My 16"s are Campagnolo, but I think they were added by some pre-owner much later.

    Best Regards
    Martin

It was Speedline 7" front and 8" rear size.
There were two sticker on the wheel, one with the manufacturer and at the opposite Ferrari 8.00J X 16" (or 7")
It is engraved SL 053 on a branch at the back of the wheel.

I have some interesting pictures (but only interesting to YOU guys!!) from the weekend.

It was really hard to find the Zinc Chromate primer to do my 14"s (Boat US, finally) as you need the right primer, for the aluminum alloy of our wheels.

This set of wheels looked "pretty good" from the front, but look at the rear of the casting!!
Bad news, even grinding did not get all of the oxidation off, I just resealed it as best I could.

ONE wheel , of all of them, had the grren paint left from the factory, and it was fine.
Note also, the one Campagnolo wheel was also fully Factory painted, and had not corrosion.
Totally different mold, as you can see...

Five rims took all weekend, and I did not do any fronts except one, that had some wierd damage of the raised rim around the center cap!

This is the rim where the Factory applicationof the green primer is barely visible...no corrosion.
