One of the best looking sports cars of all time. All time. They have tripled in price over the past few years. Should have bought my friends when he offered it to me for $80k around 2008
The Alpina suspension is a popular upgrade for Z8 owners as the OEM Z8 suspension is a bit choppy. In the long run the M5 six speed manual gearbox cars should be the more desirable rather than the Alpina. The Z8 is simply the most beautifully tailored and crafted sports car of the last 20 years. The more you are around it the more it grows on you.
I don't think prices have moved up nearly that much. I have owned 3 over the years. I paid $125k for my first used 2003 blk bulk 3k mile car back in 2005 or so. (although yes for higher higher cars wholesale was under 100k at a time) I am not trying to talk values up because I happen to have one for sale, but truth is I am actually surprised they are not worth more, I think they are bargains compared to other cars out there. Actually having second thoughts about selling this one.
I like the Z8 very much- however I can't stand the center mounted gauges. I guess some sort of attempt to be retro like the rest of the car- that is the only gripe I have on the car. Personally I'd only want the M5 w/stick, but could see how certain other drivers might want the SL sort of thing - grand touring convertible with auto like the 560SL, SL500/SL600, 550SL, SL55AMG, SL63AMG, etc...
The Z8 is a very special car. Truly hand built by the most experienced and senior employees. Was a special car from birth. No expense was spared at any point from concept to build. Intended from concept as a Halo car, an expression of the heritage, design, and ability of BMW. They still support this car in many special ways for owners. Original or not. People forget this was 16 years ago! A $130k BMW in 2000. Twice a loaded 7series. The design (my opinion, just happens to be shared by most all in autodom) is without peer in its era. Fisker at his best. The OPs car is very nice. Low miles, great color. He will get his price.
Me too. IMHO its a modern classic. Also of note, I don't have the numbers but several years ago when the dollar got really weak vs the Euro a good number of these cars left the US and ended up in Europe. They are now more rare here. I forgot to mention, the Z8 got the brakes from the 740 protection model, the bullet proof one, so they are more heavy duty. In true BMW fashion, you can still fade them on the track but on the street you would be hard pressed to fade them.
This is a neat thread. It would be great to have it live in the German sub topic area as I fear it will not have the longevity it deserves in the classifieds. Back in 2009 I set out to buy a car from 2002 because that is my son's birth year and I wanted to have a car that we could use and enjoy together through his childhood and that I will ultimately gift to him. At the time I had narrowed my choices down to a 360 Spider and a Z8. I had owned both a 360 Modena and a CS at that time and had a very positive association with each. I also had owned a 2000 M5 that I had used as my DD for 3 years and that was a great experience as well. Sub 4,000 mile examples of each could be bought for about $100k at the time. We elected to go with the Z8 and am really happy we did. It's such a fabulous car to use and has been super reliable as well. The run up in price has been a nice surprise but makes sense to me now that I'm an owner and know how special the car is. Further to the point someone made above about BMW supporting the car, about 2 years ago the radio stopped working, about 10 years after the warranty expired. I took it to my local BMW dealer who advised it needed to be replaced. When I went to pick it up I received a bill for $0. I was told that BMW NA wanted to pay for the radio and the R&R - part of their continued commitment to supporting the Z8. I thought that was pretty neat! Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
My radio went bad 3 weeks ago I got a bill for $2500 to replace it !.... Is there some special program or something I can refer to with my dealer to maybe get the treatment you did ? If there is please PM me... thanks
Very popular car in Germany that is where many of them go. Funny enough 300l cars also very popular there. Reading the comments on this thread has me thinking hard maybe to not sell it.
yup for sure hard to find great ones... was only selling because I don't have time to drive all my cars was thinking of just moving a few that don't get used.. I am sure if I sell it I will miss it and pay 50k more in a year or two for a similar condition car !
list your other cars and we will help you choose which one to sell. I dont drive my Z8 enough either but it is one of the last cars I would sell.
I have psted 2 other cars for sale here recently as well a 72 porsche and a 458 speciale in blk... going to post a fourth shortly an aston..... However, deal pending payment on the speciale as of yesterday.
Nice looking car but disagree on quality of design. Front fender aprons/shock tower are aluminum and if you happen to run over a big bump it can break the weld resulting in full frame rail replacement. Very labor intense. I've seen a couple do this. Never understood why they made the apron that way. That's my only gripe. R
Your fourth thread will be deleted, FYI. Rossa Subscribed members get 3 per calendar year. As far as I can tell, Fchat is the only forum that does this for subscribed members.
Its a problem that has been addressed by the factory via the "performance package" which most undamaged cars got installed gratis via BMW... The short version of the story is they developed the cars using normal tires but then switched to run flats out of worry over owners not having a spare... turns out the run flats exposed a weak area in the frame... My take- every car has its pros and cons. None is perfect. They each have their strengths and weaknesses... You need to be an educated purchaser on whatever model you are looking at.
In Europe the price for a Z8 starts at over $200k and averages closer to $300k. The general consensus is these cars in the future will be million dollar cars (e.g, 10 to 15 years). Reality is, what can you replace it with that has modern safety and performance with classic styling? Unfortunately Ferrari never built a successor in the direct spirit of the 250 SWB California Spyder. The Z8 is the BMW flagship successor, the 507. Keep your Z8
Name a car and the experts will tell you the weak spots... like the header issues on F430... The frame issue on the Z8 was a bit of a saga at the time but in the end BMW did the right thing.
Z8 Still available price drop to $233,000 http://www.ebay.com/itm/BMW-Z8-Z8-/301798375653?forcerrptr=true&hash=item464495c0e5:gbIAAOSwcdBWRlc~&item=301798375653 thanks
I know someone that this happened to. It was basically a write off. The BMW dealer said it was a design flaw and that all cars, eventually, would break. No offense, but full disclosure is important.
