It mostly has to do with the camera work and getting a steadier picture than Tommy's camera phone pic. It also allows the camera to be moving around the car for better angles. Of course allowing the actor to focus on their lines rather than worrying about missing a shift is a bonus.

Wasn't Erin Gray in an episode where she and one of her assistants each drove a green QV? I vaguely remember watching that episode back in the 80s. I think it was her. Does anyone know what happened to those two green cars?

Different episode years later. Erin Gray wasn't in it.

It was suppose to be one green 308 for the story but they actually used two different cars during filming.

Wait a minute... have I missed that episode? The only green Ferrari I remember was from "Summer School", the one with Robin's nephew, that Higgins was supposed to turn into a gentleman... was there another episode featuring a green Ferrari??

You mean Ferrari made TWO green 308s???

Was it Barry's?? or do we know which ones they were?

They weren't Barry's color. Not as bright and they were both QV's.

The only reason we know they used two different cars is because one had the deep front spoiler and the other didn't (but they were supposed to be the same car in the show).

Imagine how rare that must be - that color with that spoiler.

It looks like folks' memory aren't holding up as well as the 308s are :)

Sorry for my failing memory. I was a teenager when I last saw the episode. I just remembered how much I liked the Ferrari in green. Any idea what happened to those two cars?

    Tommy;

I bet this will make you watch that episode again; my theory is that there weren't 2 green Ferraris on that episode, there was only one. The other one (with the deep front spoiler) is actually the fiberglass "action car" with VW internals, the same one that was featured at Universal Studios for quite some time. I presume they painted it green for this particular episode

I watched that episode many times... actually, it's one of my favorite ones, and what makes me say this is that I watched the chase scene in slow motion, and it is very clear that the car has slightly smaller wheelbase and the seats from the stunt car are quite distinctive, and those are evident in the action scenes.

    Go ahead... check it out!

That Universal Studios car was pretty bad repro. Somewhere around here are a couple of pictures of it. Can someone dig them up again? I'm not sure where to even start looking.

I've been watching Magnum again Hallmark has been airing 4 episodes m-f and noticed that they only used the carb. 308 for the first season of the series. Episode 1 in season 2 starts with the 2 valve f.i.car. Also noticed it seems to me anyways that they pushed the 2 valve car a lot harder in more scenes than the carb. car. Still love the show even after seeing many episodes multiple times!

They had three different 308's in that episode.

Surprising to me. I always thought it was only the one O'Rourke delivered to L.A. or possibly a second - tops. But not three so early in a pilot with no guarantee of getting bought by a studio.

And I am just about 100% certain now that sliding sunroof one is chassis 28525. All circumstantial evidence but probably enough to close the books on it.

Absolutely and I like the original theme song best as well. I feel that way about a lot of the older shows like Mash.
