I hate to be pedantic, but Maldonado seems to prove you wrong there, pretty much every race. All the best, Andrew.
A fine riposte there sir! These things still live on a knife edge, and getting them working properly remains a daunting challenge. They may not be as physically demanding as times past, but they remain a *long* way from being "easy" to drive. Hopefully 2017 will see them get "harder" yet. 100mm wider rears & 80mm at the front should help some. FWIW, Pirelli are "demanding" they get six 3 day tests with current guys next season or they'll walk away according to Hembery (Autosport). As for his claim that the grid is "weak", I can recall it being both better & worse over the years; There's always been "tail end Charlie's" in the field, sometimes more than others, but I don't believe it's "weaker than it's ever been". Cheers, Ian
This. Plus his new book comes out soon, or just came out. Other than the one obvious one in Maldonado, who is really so untalented and/or a pay driver?
Concur. I always have to scratch my head when someone says a ~1400lb car with 700-900 HP and no traction control or ABS is easy to drive. Not to mention heavy reliance on aero which dramatically changes depending on what's in front of you.
While I've NEVER been an MW fan, F1 is FAR from the pinnacle of anything but nonsense. The cars are slow. The racing is contrived. The rules are rediculous and yet people keep coming to watch. Last week's MotoGP from Misano shows you what racing should be like...nail biting rup until the end with a large amount of unpredictable outcome.
