Need a M16x1.5 threaded steel coupling

On the track, they only use the tow hook to pull you out of the tire wall, or onto a flatbed.

If you are towed in after an incident, they will wrap the strap from top to bottom around the roll cage, and give you the loose end of the strap to hold onto. (This allows you to let go if anything bad happens)

 

All good points guys, but to the OP. After running the calcs I'd suggest looking at another design, threaded tube is probably not the best for such an application.

 

You guys are starting to waaaayyyyy over think this......

The hoop / bending stresses that OEM POS, (likely cast, but maybe hot forged) tow eye are seeing will cause it to fail long before any of the designs for the coupling that have been proposed thus far.

That's an engineers job though

The 308's don't employ a eye tow bolt. It's the Mondial and Testarossa, the pig heavy land yachts in Ferrari's line-up that do. The bolt is actually not cast, the threads are rolled and the eyeloop has welded stop washer at the joint. Mine looks to be a forged piece.

The 308's loop is welded to the frame and as best as I can figure was meant for simply for pulling the vehicle along in the assy line.

sounds like a material issue, we'll get an engineer right on that
