Two years later, and I am still enjoying the Scorpion. :) It has an Ansa exhaust, and I replaced the 1.8 engine with a 2.0 from a '79 Zagato but used the 1.8 head for the small increase in compression. Still has the stock Weber 32, but I have a 34DATRA on the shelf that I may finally get around to installing. Also swapped in the 5th gearset from the '79 Zagato, which brought the freeway RPMs down to a little over 20mph per 1000rpm. The car is a real joy to drive; I will slowly do little things to make it more powerful, however I want to keep it civilized and pleasant to drive (i.e. not too noisy or harsh).

    Cheers,

    Tony K.

Now asking 35k. Still high priced imo. It's a nice car and you probably couldn't restore one for that price. I'd rather buy one for 6k, fix up fuel lines and whatever was old and drive the piss out of it!

Lancia Beta Scorpion was one of the first cars I remember having a thing for... Looked so cool back when... Took 30+ years to begin to scratch that itch... 8^)

Yeah this is someone trying to cash in on the current nutty evaluations for some cars.

It's not original and it's not modified significantly enough for me to justify that amount of money.

Well ... that and I just don't fit in them. :)

I've always loved them though, 77 has the more elegant styling but this is nice too.

Always loved em, stumbled into this one last week by chance and made it mine in about 30 seconds...sometimes you just know. Actually was a BAT featured car 1.5 yrs ago and is a very nice example that I at least 'knew'. Now shod with tasty 'euro' bumpers. I just completed a 180 mile drive from sea level over Donner Summit, to Tahoe. Performed beautifully.

Congratulations! Your Lancia looks great. I love the original design, removing DOT and EPA modifications really works for me.

Kudos! A 1977. Looks like butress glass removed which is what I did to mine. And you have what I think are the best wheels, the Cromodora Daytonas.

Mahalos amigos, seems it's been around, this one, and has pretty much been well received everywhere. It drove wonderfully yesterday. A bit sluggish from a start, but just kept winding up to where I could cruise up the Donner grade at 65-75 - the flow of Cali traffic on 80.

I'll detail more with photos soon. Really pleased to have found it and snagged it before it hit the market.

I have such a boner for these cars. Awesome aesthetics and really nice factory wheels. The one to have is the 1977 model for the glass buttresses, well bought! Enjoy and keep us updated with all your improvements.

Look forward to seeing your build. And look forward also to seeking knowledge from you and others I know to be resident experts of the marque.

They are really cool looking cars. I'm at a Halloween party and drove it over -
A lot of fun chatter about it from folks here.

...also agreed on the cromodora daytona's - they make ANY car from this era look better. Already contemplating redoing mine in gold?

The Lancia Scorpion and Lancia Montecarlo Consortium FB pages and Lancisti forum are best places to find info and parts.

Mang, the person who modded your car did a nice job. Looks like you got a winner.

Several nitpicky things in the engine compartment to take to next level.

The farmost cam cover is one from a pollution controlled car. They made use of the no-longer needed bracket by zip-tying the coil wire to it but you really don't want your coil wire tied to heated metal. Replace w/ cam cover w/o the mount or have machined off.

Appears the farmost cam end still has the original cam w/ the drive for the airpump. Machine cam end off or replace w/ non-airpump cams and use the non-airpump plate on the end of camtower.

You still have the fuel revap hoses and vents, the little white plastic ones that criss-cross above fuel tank. The original material braided hoses are known to rot and cause fuel smell. You can ditch all that and plug appropriately ensuring tank is vented to not vaporlock.

You can swap in the more powerful Bosch alternator with the internal voltage regulator to ditch the external one (black box).

The push-button near ignition coil is emission crap and can be removed.

That white plastic valve near passenger's strut tower is emissions crap and can be removed as can I think all those relays there. Think a couple of them are the fuel pump relays that are wired into oil pressure to kill the engine if you lose oil pressure. hat is great an all but not when your engine dies leaving you stranded when relay goes bad or additional connections corrode.

It does not appear you have a wire lead going to one of the two temp sensors in the head that you should have going there. Thinking one is for the dummy light and other is the temp gauge.

Wow, absolutely appreciate this message. What an amazing resource you are, thanks sincerely. I will get on all of it. I am sure the zippy little car will appreciate all these improvements. I absolutely love this thing, it feels like you are encapsulated in mini Ferrari if there was such a thing (ha Asa goes here), but has the look certainly, the sound, and the 'feel' if not at a much slower speed. I like driving slow cars fast, since the speed limit around here is pretty much 45, but the twisties and the scenery are nice in cars like this Scorpion. I'm smitten, and Robert, I'm 6'1" and it is really spacious and comfortable.

You got rid of those awful "Herbie's love interest " USA head lamps great! They weigh a ton along with the USA bumper. I did that on two scores I had 20years ago

The original builder apparently left the gnarly US front setup on, the next owner changed out to these - they are nice, stainless. Still need signal lenses 'mounted', the holes aren't even cut out yet. Future projects lining up...

    Mang,

Several other things. If you are talking about the front turn signals in the Montecarlo bumper, there are Mitsubishi Galant signals that fit and are easier to source. I have the part# if you can't find Monte ones. If you are talking about the fender turn signals, I wouldn't bother drilling holes thru fender to install them.

The 2 sensors on the transmission that have no wires leading to them can be removed and plugged accordingly. They were for emissions. The remaining one is your reverse light sensor.

If the cam end drive for the air pump is sticking out thru the further cam box, you still have the detuned Scorpion cams and with your dual carbs and exhaust header could probably benefit from mild performance cams or if evidence of higher compression piston install and/or cylinder head upgrades, lumpy cams.

Does not appear its been converted to electronic ignition yet. That is easy will give it more umph. The Mariplex is the factory-ish mod or there are a several aftermarket units to choose from.

They came w/ a thick aluminum heat shield on the rear deck above exhaust box that holds water creating weight and rust. They were for protecting the spare from the heat of the cat converter. Looks like perhaps someone replaced yours with a thinner version but hard to tell in photo. If your's is about an inch thick, you can ditch it.

You'll also want to crawl under and inspect the rear crossmember for cracks and good idea to weld on plate to strengthen and/or fill with foam to strengthen and prevent water/moisture from corroding from inside.

There is a light-weight high torque compact starter available now. Saves maybe 20 lbs but makes access to other components easier.

    Is your AC installed/works?

I really haven't checked much, just grabbed it on blind faith and have barely driven it 5 times now and a blizzard hit today. So cabin bound and unable to work on it for now. Thanks - you want to visit Tahoe, go skiing, turn a few wrenches on my car :D

At some point I will want to transform this car once again with everything you bring up, just from a few photos. I am sure there are more and more things to check and sort. The signals I'm referring to are in front yes, so appreciate the lead on the mitsu option. I don't think heater is hooked up either? I got no books or manuals, so pressing buttons and guessing and not really concerned as I should be. I just wanted to get behind the wheel and make those webers whine.

    Great looking car Mike.

Not that you would... but it'd probably be a LOT better in the snow than the Goose. ;-)

Really looks in fantastic shape and I really like the graphite color. I can't recall seeing a dark one before. A nice change from the gold, pale blue, red and silver ones I have seen.
