Also, it was the teams understanding that if Sainz could not pass Perez, he would give the position back before the end of the race I'm sure that was communicated to Young Max G
So young Max should give way to young Carlos who never really got on Max's tail and was constantly 6 to 8 tenths behind him.... Not even considering the great race Max delivered by progressing his way up the field from 20th position up to 8th (with a little help of the safety car). Even holding the fastest lap of the race for a quite big part of the race and cleanly overtaking other cars in a way like he's been in F1 for years. Partly agree, Sainz should've battled Max more to earn his place in front of him, not just "rely" on the team and certainly not just 2 or 3 laps before race end. If you ask a driver a question like that your not fit for sport in general or F1 in particular. Mercedes would've handeld this completely different; more mature. +1, no +1000. Max has progressed in an incredible way this season. Delivering a faultless race on one of the most demanding tracks of the year and even holding the fastest lap time quite a big part of the race. Seems Max is already too big for team Torro Rosso; I'd say Ferrari give Verstappen a call and secure him for the 2017 season. Vettel and Verstappen will be a great Ferrari line-up for the 2017 F1 season.
And who signs Max's checks? He is not yet at the (maturity and experience) level to make that call in the face of the (larger) team...
Rosberg strategy question: For the second time this year Nico was on strategy to put on the option tires for the final stint and did not do so. It clearly worked for the Toro Rosso in Singapore. It seems like they keep electing the safe strategy to consolidate points rather than pushing.
Very impressive performance from the V bombers Vettel and VerstaPPen. Great show from those two. Ricci did well too - battled all the way and a massively underpowered POS engined RB. Rossi solid. The rest? Why did they bother turning up??
+1 The British media has been British driver focused and missed Vettel surpassing Senna with 10 fewer race starts than Hamilton and 25 of his 151 starts were in the Toro Rosso, hardly the first rate machinery Hamilton has his entire career. Those who said Vettel could only win in a Newey car may want to rethink that excuse. Well done Seb!
according to local media, TR admitted alreadyin a BBC interview they gave Max the wrong order. They state Max made the right call not to let Sainz pass.
Not a Seb fan but I agree. Can you guys imagine the history books if Schumie had remained in Mercedes?
It's good to see someone other than Merc dominate a race. So, hats off to Ferrari and Red Bull. But it seems like Merc was having technical problems. It would have been better if they really beat them at their best. On the other hand, kinda of a dull race. I'm disappointed Kimi couldn't challenge Riciardo the entire race. Still he finished 3rd so that's good. Nicco seemed to sleep through the entire event. IMO: Button and Massa screwed the pooch in this race but Hulk got the penalty. Every week it's the same story from the announcers: "Look at the progress of McLaren!" Two laps later.... ooops. And... hat's off to Rossi in his first F1 bringing the car home.
I think everyone knows that Hamilton and Vettel would eventually pass Senna. The only reason there was such focus on Hamilton was that a) Senna is his hero and b) the specter of him having the same number of wins as his hero in the same number of starts. There will not be much press on the achievement now that item 'b' is not possible
+1 On the Kimi front, he drove a fine race, but never was able to challenge Ricciardo really. IMO Vettel and Riciardo where head and shoulders over everyone else today. Shame about Kvyat. He would have finished a close 4th very easily. Disagree on the Massa front. He had nowhere to go (can't go on the curbs there because they are way too high), Hulkenberg wasn't passed him, merely alongside. If he gave just a little room he would've passed Massa. Whilst it was a racing incident, the blame does lie at Hulk's feet. Interestingly, he did the same at Le Mans a lot, and nearly cost them the win/finish. I'm on the fence with Button. Maldonado just did the usual idiotic thing, he had NO lines throughout the race, then when he messed up he just didn't get on the throttle which caught Button out. Well done bringing the car home, but damn did he make a monumental F up during the SC. Mindboggeling.
Fantastic stuff from both Ferrari drivers. As usual, a weird race with weird incidents. Massa's tangle with Mr Le Mans looks like a typical racing incident, and then some dude decided to go for Sunday stroll... I wonder what Mr Sour Grapes has to say now.
The whole Torro Rosso "story" shouldn't have happened. Because in my view, the pass of Sainz on ... Grosjean? ... was over the top, and should have been labelled as: Forcing another driver off the track! Braking way too late and hoping that Grosjean will go off to prevent a collision.
Oh jeez. Hope we don't have another case of the twins . Whilst I commend Max for standing ground, I was not aware that Sainz would have given the position back if he couldn't pass Perez either. Sainz did have newer tires etc than Max, though you're right he barely got a look in (even early in the race, made no attempt to pass or look at Alonso). I'm pretty sure we didn't get to hear the entire radio. Typically in a situation like this the team gives the driver an oppertunity to pass with a lap limit, if not, the other driver gets a go, and then swap back before finish if job was not completed. Max wouldn't really have lost face if he did this. Before I get accused of being a Max detractor, I've been an early supporter of him here since last year, and have plenty of posts to back this up. I really like the kid, but I'm scared of the inevitable mindless idiots that will come annoy us when he starts winning regularly and accuse everyone of being haters . On top of that I'm Dutch, so I finally have a driver to be proud of for once.
VerstaPPen benefited from 2 safety car periods to unlap himself, during which he was happy to receive information and coaching from his team. Team orders are team orders, and are not to be discussed Period. The team has more information and see the broad picture in a race, unlike a driver purelly focussed on his driving. Based on the data they collected, TR thought that Sainz would have a better chance to challenge Perez than VerstaPPen. VerstaPPen was just following the Force India. Commentators like Coulthard and Eddie Jordan also agree on that. VerstaPPen is quite happy to receive and obbey instructions from him team when it suits him, but not when he doesn't like them. I suggest that the team should stop all communication with him during the next race, and let him realise he needs their input to conduct his race. You are right, I don't like little brats !!!
They found and arrested the nutcase who went on the track. Apparently... he just wanted to take some photos with his cell phone! Selfie-itis! F1 News - F1 Singapore Grand Prix: Man arrested after Singapore GP track invasion A 27 year-old man has been arrested after getting onto the track during the Singapore Grand Prix as an inquiry begins to assess how he was able to gain access. The man was seen walking down the track near turn 13 alongside the barriers on lap 35 of the Singapore Grand Prix, though race winner Sebastian Vettel says he saw him cross the live circuit and take a photograph too. The unidentified man proceeded to jump back behind the barriers by himself, where he was subsequently detained by Singapore Police.
I still fail to see how anyone can blame massa. He kept his line and it was obvious hulk ran right into him. I mean wtf was hulk thinking not going outside?
