Hi all. Do any of you have this type of trim in places on your 308's. I'm looking for this material to trim the seats if my very early 365 boxer and having no success. Until now I didn't even know it was used on anything other than a 365 BB.

This trim was used on the roof headlining and "B" pillars (NOT SEATS) of the 2 valve 308 injected cars.....horrible stuff as it is a "dirt magnet" trap.

Very early 365 Boxers used it as seat trim but it was soon discontinued for leather(probably for the same reason ) or "not luxurious" enough for a top of the range car, which the boxer was at the time.

Haven't come across it anywhere in quantity other than the odd NOS 308 2vi trim pieces that are advertised for sale from time to time.

The replacement wool trim in 308 QV's was supplied to Ferrari by Zegna in Italy( Yes the famous men's suit manufacturer!) so maybe try contact them???

    Cheers,

    Grim

It is exactly the same stuff, although IIRC it wasn't used on the Carby 308's?

Has your targa top been replaced with that from a 2vi model?

My boxer was the original Ferrari UK demo car. I have papers from the first owner written before he purchased it saying that he thought the seats were of poor quality and requested them to be re trimmed in leather at no cost to himself should they deteriorate in a short amount of time. They did, he took the car back and Ferrari UK took the seats out and made him wait a little over a month as they sent them back to the factory to be leathered !

I don't know the early targa top, but at least since 1982 they used the "Zegna" fabric for the headliner: that's different from this one

If my memory serves my old tired mind.....Early Boxer seats covered in this material were one piece with no reclining backrest....Very uncomfortable!

This is what's pictured in the first factory brochure on the 365 Boxer and was on the debut "show car".....

If the first owner sent them back to be recovered in Connolly leather why are you chasing this cloth trim?

IIRC if the factory re did the seats in leather they would have used the later type of seat with the reclining backrest(Two pieces)....what's in the car now?

Early boxers as you correctly say had one piece seats. Only the first 20 or so had the sack cloth seats. The leather option were still a one piece seats as were mine when returned to the factory to be re trimmed and as they are now. Just be nice to return it to as was condition.

    Yes Alberto, you are correct!

The red Zegna trim first appeared in the 208 Turbo range....in the QV's it was brown or grey in colour(Headlining and Targa roof)....but you could factory option delete the Connolly leather trim on the seats of QV models and order the 208 Turbo red trim....I know several RHD UK Market 308 QV's delivered new this way!

Keith Bluemel's book on our beloved cars, "Original Ferrari V8" actually pictures the inside of a RHD QV 308 GTS with the red Zegna cloth trim option.

I'm sure I've seen the trim on another Italian car of the period....for some reason Alfa Romeo GTV comes to mind? Or Fiat 130 maybe???

Pretty sure it wasn't exclusive to Ferrari.....again can I suggest Zegna in Italy???

    Been a long time!

You always learn something here! yes, the 82-85 turbo had Zegna fabric trim as standard (fole leather seats was a factory option). But I did not know you could have that trim on the QV too. The Zegna fabric was available in black, sand, red and blue (very rare). It's a fantastic trim, but quite delicate.

In the picture is showed the black Zegna fabric trim, 208 turbo seats.

    And it is gone forever.

I bought a roll of it in 2001 and it was most likely the last on earth. It was old stock too, the foam backing was coming off but it was the best I could do.

Don't know. I suppose it could be. It's gone now and I have the striped pleather inserts.

Edit: and like Tommy mentioned before going with the above inserts on mine I looked for the cloth and I didn't have any luck finding enough to do the top. And that was 7-8 years ago. There is probably a stash of it out there somewhere but I can't imagine it being in very good shape by now. The foam backing was totally disintegrated on mine.

Well, in spite of the shipping cost, I would say "ReOriginals" here in Texas may be able to source it for you.

Talk to Matt Jones as he has the Italian vendors, to Ferrari, 'in the day" in his Rolodex....if he still uses one of those!

I tossed mine out, only last week.

He is the guy that found my roll 15 years ago. It wasn't easy for him, then.

...and that was 15 years ago

Was it the proper sack type material that Matt Jones found you 15 years ago, do you have any left ?

It was absolutely the correct material. I wanted it because I remember that part of the interior particularly well as a kid and I wanted my car the same (it's an 84).

I don't have any left. Mine has gotten really dirty over by the driver's side, I guess from my window being down and I don't want to damage it trying to clean it since it cannot be replaced.

I need to figure that out.

The part on the roof has sagged. (t finally separated from the foam). I have had that repaired once but the top just sits in a closet now since I got the Saratoga.
