    Hello 3x8- friends,

I post this here, because I fear flames from F12-owners :) But please don't take it too serious.
Today something happened and I wonder, is it me, or is it Ferrari? First of all, I'm only 52 years old and think, dementia is still far away. Especially since I'm a musical instrument player and according to certain studies, those folks should be protected more than other folks :)
O.k. I thought, that I could indentify each and every Ferrari from the distance of several hundred meters.
But today I wrongly identified a Ferrari F12 from the rear from a few hundred meters and thought it is a Corvette C7 at first glance. I had to approach significantly to recognize, it's a Ferrari F12.
But this incident really made me think about today's Ferrari design. I cannot imagine, that something would have happened to me back in the days of Daytonas or Boxers, or 3x8s.

    Best Regards from Germany
    Martin

The new Corvette is, IMHO, an amalgamation of today's mid-engine and front engine Ferraris.

I'm not quite sure how you were able to mistake an F12 for a vette, however. Was it white, red, or yellow? Sometimes details are lost with lack of contrast or strong saturated hues

All the cars look the same now. I can barely tell the new Ferrari models apart. Maybe it is because I just don't find them attractive so I just don't care what they are.

You can trace styling cues on the corvette from Ferrari through three decades. Yes the new corvette is a poor man's F12.

I agree, they look very similar at first glance.

Slightly off-topic, but I can't tell the difference between the front ends of any modern front-engined Ferrari (F-12, FF, Cali) during a quick drive-by. I need a side view glance before I know what I am looking at.

Same thing happened to me, only in white. I was sitting in the Sonic drive thru in Pigeon Forge TN, when, in stop and go traffic, a, what appeared to me a Ferrari rolled by. I said to myself who would dare drive a Ferrari in this sea of American iron? Realized it was a Vette. decided I wasn't worried about knowing the names of the current Ferraris. When you've gotten to the point where you not in love with them just let it go. Trying to keep up with what they're all called is a chore. None of them do much for me. Ok, maybe the 458 Special does but that's it.

I agree. I'll hold off judgment of the 488 until I've seen one in person. Ferrari hasn't hit one out of the park in the styling department in quite some time.

Although the F12 design is an improvement over the 599, the 575 was a much prettier car. And just when you thought Ferrari couldn't make the 612 less attractive, they replaced it with the FF.

The 456 was striking by comparison.

The 458 was good looking, an improvement over the F430. However, the 360 was the last truly beautiful design to come from the house of Pinninfarina.

    IMHO

The styling goal of modern exotic cars is no longer to acheive beauty, it is to look outrageous and satisfy technical requirements.

This, is the truest statement on this board. Especially at Ferrari. Today's cars look the way they do to meet the safety regs, while in the case of Ferrari, also to maximize aero performance.

The rest is subjectivity. For every poster who dislikes the F12, there's another, like myself, that find it to be a stunningly beautiful car.

    I love all of them . . .

BTW, not sure that the FF could be accurately described as a replacement to the 612. Need to research that, but I've never seen anything qualifying the car in that manner.

The new cars look fantastic...........for being a car of 2015, but how will they look in 20 years? Or 40 years? Look back, which ones still look great after all those years. Some designs are timeless, some just right for today.

To me, the Corvette is one of the most incoherent designs I've seen.

I confuse them from a distance as well. Possible explanations:
    1) Corvette borrowed some styling cues from Ferrari?
    2) The "distance" between Corvette and Ferrari isn't what it used to be?
    3) The F12 just isn't that impressive to begin with
    4) From a probability perspective, it's probably a Corvette, unless if you're at an FCA event!
