I received my copy of Walters Vignale Spyder book today. Now that I own 101.1121 the book has new meaning. Ordering was easy by sending an email to [email protected]. It is very interesting with lots of information on many cars - not all by any means. For the price it is well worth having in your library but to be picky I would have liked to see more detailed photos especially given the fact that Walter is an accomplished photographer. Many of the cars perhaps 70% of them are in Europe so he could have easily arranged for 2 or 3 cars to be made available for photo shoots. There was a lot of references to VCM when I published the magazine which captured dates when cars were offered and or photographed. Several of my photos were pulled directly from copies of VCM (with my permission) which made me feel very good about the work Janet and I did in the 80's and 90's. Congratsulations Walter very well done. Ciao, FGM MASERATI 3500GT Spyder by Vignale by Walter Bäumer 300 photos on 208 pages about one of the greatest GT-cars of the 1960s! I too have the new book and am really pleased to have it. I had the pleasure of meeting Walter at the Arizona Concours in January and he was kind enough to deliver the book in person since he was judging at the show. What a great reference for the 3500 spiders and beautifully put together. I am waiting for the revised edition in a few years that will show most of them restored due to the ever increasing values. Great book again, Walter. Bill LeMasters 101.1317
Hey Frank congratulations on getting a Vignale Spyder. As you know my car is 101 1119 just one serial number away, but according to the list your car was finished 3 months later. If you need any pictures let me know. What is the rest of the story? Color, pictures etc
Here are the latest photos of AM101.1121 nicknamed the "Frog" or the "Vig" The photos were shot up on highway 74 last Friday Feb 26th at about 4:30PM Painted it's original color "Verde Scuro" Dark green - Max Meyer Code 10.550 It is a hard color to photograph because it often looks black. An original Weber car with 5 speed, 4 wheel disc brakes and wire wheels. I am having fun with 1121 slowly tuning it to be road tour worthy. I would like to hear from and exchange photos and information with other Vignale Spyder owners. Specifically I would like to see a copy of the dash layout schematic, if anyone has one. Ciao, FGM PS That non original 100mm ugly hose has been replace with the proper paper one. Frank, Very, very nice Vignale spyder! I use to own 1129 (which you sold me) and it is interesting to note the many differences even though the serial numbers are very close. 1129 had a floor mounted hand brake while your car has the earlier style umbrella hand brake. Your car has 4 wheel disc brakes while 1129 had drums on the rear. 1129 door panels had a sunrise pattern on the leather. The car still had its original door panels (which I still have) and were replicated. There was an aluminum trim panel under the data plates in the engine compartment. Ashtray location is different The passenger's power window switch was located on the dash and not on the door panel. I changed the air cleaner from the fiberglass box with the remote filter (similar to the injected cars) to the earlier style which is also on your car. It is possible your car left the factory with the later style air filter but I must admit the earlier ones look better. Look for the mounting bracket for the remote air filter in the front right corner and that will tell one which one was original. Please excuse the dryer hose and white exhaust manifolds in the engine compartment of 1129. This was many years ago and I was just learning Enjoy your car ... it looks great! I would be interested to know if anyone has a manual or Factory document that shows the dash layout of the early Vignale Spyders. The one with the small "button" type warning lights. I am well aware that the later dash with the bigger clear warning lights is shown in the 3500 Coup owners manual, but his is very different than the early cars. Anyone? Ciao, Frank
Congrats Frank, what a striking beauty you have there. Very interesting colour combination, suits the car extremely well in my opinion! CU lbird
Ciao Frank, congratulations to your very nice car ! Attached a copy of the dash from the Maserati Manual 3500GT Convertible (in Italian). The foto shows a very early - pre series - car (#871) but has the same position and the same functions as described in the manual. When the car was bought, the dash was completely original (never dismantled). Here the positions and functions of #871 (see foto): #6: turn signal flasher (red lamp) #7: dimmed headlight (green lamp) #8: high beam light (green lamp) #9: generator warning (red lamp) Ciao Alfred Image Unavailable, Please Login Image Unavailable, Please Login
