Last night on the premier episode of Jay Leno's Garage (on CNBC) he went to GM's Styling Center to look at a Bill Mitchell concept car called Pegasus, a Pontiac Firebird with a Ferrari engine. The engine was a Daytona Comp engine given to Mitchell by Enzo Ferrari as well as gauges for the interior.

From GM connections was told that the order went through Chinetti.

    It did.
The 1st iteration wasn't fast enough for Mr. Mitchell, so it was sent back to Chinetti for a 'better' engine.
He installed the latest, at the time 275 motor.
New engine proved fast enough, and the original Ferrari engine is still in the original wooden shipping crate at GM Design!
    Wacky times, those!

He owned a personal Daytona as well.

They "pimped it" while he was travelling on vacation, the pictures were pretty well circulated at the time..

The "pimped" Daytona was Chuck Jordan's.

Correct, that was Chuck Jordan's Daytona.
    Mitchell never had a Daytona.

I didn't know where to put this post, because it is not a rebody or recreation, a concept car sporting a V-12 Daytona engine. At least this is one car that no Ferrari was sacrificed to get an engine.

Story is that GM didn't want this one to be well known; considered one of Mitchell's more excessive toys.

Trying to remember if it was Pegesus that in an earlier iteration had a quad headlight cross between a TR and 58 Corvette nose.

There is at least one person on F-chat that has actually driven the car back in the Mitchell days.

    Indeed
When the restoration was completed several yrs ago the decision was made to forego all the pin striping Mitchell had painted on the car, so it's much 'cleaner' looking now, but altered from the original
