I ordered some Bib & Tucker and Noah's Mill and a couple other bourbons today along with a few bottles of Tenshen Red Blend. I pick it up Thursday, can't wait to try the Bib & Tucker.

    Robert,

I've seen a few different orphan barrel bottles. Is it a crapshoot or are these good?

    Duane,

Let us know what you think.

+1 (again) for Larceny- very smooth and easy drinking, $25 a bottle at BJs.

Has become a "go to" Xmas gift just so I can count on there being a bottle at all of our friends' and relatives' houses :)

Just tried Larceny tonight. Not bad for the price but I'll stick with Angels Envy for now.

Next time I'm in California I need to stock up. Booze is too expensive in Texas.

I tried my first bottle of Colonel EH Taylor small batch bourbon this weekend. It was roughly $60 for the bottle and came in its own sleeve etc. It is produced and bottled by the folks at the Buffalo Trace distillery. I found it to have a sweet initial taste with a bit of a spicy finish. My wife did not care for it as she enjoys really oaky flavors like pappy delivers. Good bang for the buck, I enjoyed it neat.

I love EH Taylor, both the small batch and single barrel. Whenever I get a bottle, it never lasts very long.

They are very solid. Rhetoric is my favorite.

Found something I didn't think existed outside of the factory save for one website...Maker's Mark Cask Strength! It's most certainly one of my favorites. Really, really good bourbon. The only other time I've ever seen it for sale outside of the factory was on Caskers.com, but they only had half bottles for the same price as I paid for this full bottle.

After you've had the cask strength, it's REALLY hard to go back to the standard bottling.

    Mark,

Lately I've come across a number of cask strength (or high proof) bottles. Russell's Reserve is pretty good at 110 proof. I've seen a number of others including Knob Creek 120 proof but haven't tried them yet. Any recommendations?

    Regards,

    Art S.

Leaving out Pappy and other super rare bottlings, my recommendations should come as no shock. :)

Blantons, EH Taylor, Willet, Noah's Mill (assuming the inconsistency issue has been resolved), and Maker's Mark. These are in no particular order, but I think I would rate Blantons the highest with EH Taylor a close second.

Four Roses is pretty decent also. Bookers is OK, but not one of my favorites. Same goes for Evan Williams.

I picked up a bottle of Costco brand 'Kirkland' Bourbon - 7year old, small batch, 103 proof and not bad flavor for $21! Very nice surprise!

Finally had Larceny, in fact I'm having some right now. The wife and I were out of town for a wedding and picked up a bottle to keep in our room to supplement the rest of the weekend's drinking. For the price, I'm impressed. You certainly can tell its a younger bourbon, but it has a lot of flavor and character.

    Hey Gents,

Long time lurker, first time boaster haha. I walked into my local mega liquor mart and they have one of the best bourbon selections in the state. I managed to snag a bottle of Makers Cask Strength and an Orphan Barrel Barterhouse 20yr.

If anybody is looking for these please let me know and I can point you in the right direction! Ill post some pics of the Barterhouse in a minute. Havent tried either just yet though, maybe tonight!

    Edit: heres the pics!

My parents brought these back from the Jack Daniels distillery. They loved the tour btw.

Any suggestions on how to drink, old fashioned?

    LMAO Mark. :D

I plan on having my friends over to try them out. They are all true bourbon drinkers. I'm not but had to tell my parents to bring something back.

    Nice.

Try neat first, then start adding drops of water and see how the tastes changes. I believe both those bottles are a higher grade than JDs standard bottlings, so I would treat them a little bit more delicately. Let us know your thoughts when you've tried them. I need to get down to check out the tour.
