Taste is a matter of taste but: Front. 458 smaller intake looks sleeker. Larger 488 looks meaner. Rear. 458 3 exhausts are unique. 488 is like every car. Meh. Plastic around the tail lights look cheap. Carbon fiber option MAY save it. Side: 488 side intakes are HUGE. Black treatment under the doors makes the intakes more prominent. Door handles may be "aerodynamic" but fugly. So the 488 at BEST is not an improvement IMVHO.
I prefer the more subtle look of the 458-more 'Italian', if you will , 488 looks like the class bully in comparison.
To me, the front of the 488 looks much better than the 458. That mouth on the 458 always seemed to smile goofy to me. I like the 488, and if we order one, it won't get the black sport sills or the carbon sport sills, nor will it get the carbon splitter in the side intake. Without these options, I think the car looks ace.
I am not going to get into the which looks better. As always a matter of taste. I will say that I have always seen some of the Enzo in the rear quarter from head on view. The side vents seem to give top leading edge of rear fender a square edge a la Enzo (with its big side scoops). In person I may see it more or less than in the pic. 458 seems to have a rounder appearance to me. Best
Agreed. I think the car looks much better without the sport sills and carbon splitter. After seeing the first pictures I thought the 488 was better looking from the front and back, but the 458 had a better side profile - I wasn't sure about those side intakes. However in the flesh they really work - in fact I really like them now. Obviously there is no right answer, but to me the 488 is a stunning car and a clear winner over the 458
The 488 is not a huge departure from the 458 IMHO. If you like the 458 you're going to like the 488. Deciding factor will be the drive not the looks.
The 458 is a great looking car. The 488 is a wonderful progression of the design. A very clever and artful update by Ferrari. And, while it doesn't diminish the beauty of the 458 in any way, the 488 moves it up a notch.
Agreed. I have seen three 488 in person and all with black sport sills. They are from unpainted black plastic and looked very very cheap to me. I ordered mine without sport sills, so the are painted in body color.

I like the front of the 488 better but the profile shot is no contest.....the 458 has a much more beautiful flow....
When looking at the pictures of these two side by side, I think the 488 makes the 458 look just a little bit dated. The 458 was a major design improvement over the 430 and so loved that it's easy to see why people are reluctant to embrace the 488's design. I think as 488's start to be delivered and people see them in person, they will realize that it is a good design and it does date the 458. Whether people embrace twin turbos versus NA remains to be seen. That is the big challenge.
While I realize that taste in design is by definition totally subjective, and that I may be biased as a 458 owner, I am puzzled when people claim that the 488 makes the 458 appear "dated." I understand the argument a bit as applied to the 360/430 comparison, as most people who believe the 360 to have been dated by the 430 point to the smaller-diameter wheels and the headlight design. However, although the 488 may be a more "aggressive" design, particularly in the front air intake/spoiler and side scoops, I don't see how these elements "date" the 458, from which the 488 was obviously derived. I think that the passage of time may yield a consensus as to whether the 458 is dated, but it is premature, in my humble opinion, to reach that conclusion at present. Different is not necessarily better, or even more modern. As an illustration, I would point to the Dino (I've been a Dino owner for 39 years), as compared with the 308 upon its introduction. The common opinion in 1975 was that the Dino's body design was rendered obsolete by the lines of the 308 GTB. Both cars are cherished today by Ferrari lovers, but I don't think that many would consider the Dino to be in the 308's shadow. Further, I haven't heard many comments to the effect that the 328 "dated" the 308. Appreciation of design requires time and familiarity. That's what makes it so interesting to me. Fred
Too bad we can't mix and match. Cars - 2013 Ferrari 458 Spider 2011 Porsche 911 Turbo S Cabriolet Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
I prefer the 488 front and the 458 rear. The side I still don't know which I like better. I would have to see them both side by side in person to really make a decsion. But I do like the 488 design and think its a nice progression.
That rectangular vent looks unattractive to me, especially this view, in the side mirror. The 488 front and rear styling are fine though. One good thing about the 488 vent is that it helps to differentiate between the two models.
First 488 real photo I see without black sport sills and for me it looks much more better than unpainted black plastic sills. http://i.ebayimg.com/00/s/NDgwWDcyMA==/z/8CUAAOSw14xWGMoL/$/$_57.JPG http://i.ebayimg.com/00/s/NDgwWDcyMA==/z/GzoAAOSw5VFWGMov/$/$_57.JPG http://abload.de/img/55555oou1j.jpg
I think the 360/430 side vent looks a million and one times better... Image Unavailable, Please Login
