Picture #1 and #2 is the OEM trickle charger that I have always used. It is part # 231504 and is a 10V charger for 12V Lead Acid batteries. The specs show Output 12VDC, 0.8A 4 step charging...Input 100-120VAC, 0.3Arms, 50-60Hz I would like to get another OEM charger but the OEM charger that I see for sale is in picture #3. It is part # 260121 and the specs show Output 12VDC, 3.3A 4 step charging...Input 110-120VAC, 1.1Arms, 60Hz. They both have the plug in connector for under the dash. I see that CTEK makes a model 800 which I assume is the equivalent of my 231504 and a model 3300 which is the equivalent of the 260121. Neither one has the "plug and play" adapter. Does any one know if the new one is compatible with my vehicle or will it cause a problem? Is this just the newer, more powerful version of what I have ? Is there another "plug and play" charger I should consider instead ? How do I covert it to "plug and play" or do you have to buy OEM to get that luxury ? Thanks in advance for your advice. Hey Rocketman, My Ferrari branded charger wasn't working when I picked up the scud spider. I just pulled out the passenger floor panel and hard wired the connector of a new Ctek. It works like a charm. FS
I would prefer to be able to plug it into the socket that is provided under the dash. Which CTEK did you get ?
The connector under the dash is Ferrari specific, no ctek charger comes with it. If you buy a OEM ferrari charger you get a CTEK, but with an adpator, see picture. 13C7C02F-70BC-4821-86A6-FC1E6ADE8656_zpse1chgxth.jpg Photo by sjw9 | Photobucket You can see the CTEK to Ferrari adapter in the front of the box. This is what I got when I bought my UK Ferrari OEM charger directly from my main dealer. I think it was not sold as a specific Ferrari Model charger, but install a universal Ferrari Charger, it was only £90, so $150ish I guess. Also, here is a blog about making your own cable. https://www.kumari.net/index.php/cars/ferrari-battery-charger-cable I have several CTEK chargers, they all work on my Ferrari, including the smart MXS5.0, once you have the adapter cable. Thanks for the response Neil. I have a Deltran Battery Tender that has two connectors attached to it. A clamp type battery connector and loop connectors. ( sorry if terms are wrong )but don't see any way to hook up that Ferrari plug adapter to it. Is there a generic charger that has a mechanism that will allow the plug in connector to be attached ? Thanks
You can mate the plug (can be purchased from Mouser) that will fit the Scud port under the dash with any battery maintainer. I put together tails for both my Scud and 612 (same plug) and am using more advanced C-tek units to maintain the batteries, plugging into the Ferrari port.
Jes, That's my problem is not knowing how to "mate" the plug with the battery maintainer. Not sure how to "put together tails". Maybe I can ask a local mechanic to do it for me ? Where would I look on Mouser to find it ? Just looked at their website and can't find it. Thanks
It is pretty simple, and if you don't feel comfortable yourself, someone with a basic understanding of eletrical stuff should be able to help you. I put the Mouser parts numbers in a post somewhere... either 612 or 430/360 section.
This post has the links: http://www.ferrarichat.com/forum/143977089-post3.html If you buy the parts and point your "friend" to the schematics it should be a breeze for him.
Once I have the part that plugs into the socket under the wheel well is there a particular type of trickle charger that will accept the other end of the connection ?
I have this same OEM charger for sale in the ads http://www.ferrarichat.com/forum/ferrari-parts-collectibles/493147-ferrari-260121-battery-conditioner-charger-alfa-8c-broken-connector-f430-458-612-599-a.html NOTE: this link also has discussion about the OEM connectors and pins details The Bill Of Materials - What to buy (connectors and pins), where to buy it
You would cut off the plug/connector of the C-tek (or other maintainer), and crimp the pins for the Ferrari compatible connector onto the wire ends, and then insert the pins into the Ferrari compatible connector. So, you can get whatever battery maintainer you like.
Scott, Are you missing the correct plug coming from the charger and goes into the socket in the car? Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
So what do I need to bring ? The old non working trickle charger with male plug attached. Do I need to purchase a new CTEK charger to attach it to ? I have a Deltran Battery Tender...can that be used ? Please let me know when it is convenient for you to meet me. Thanks
I'm not familiar with Deltran battery tenders. It might work too. I have only used CTEK. Maybe someone here on the forum can verify it.
I can always pick up a CTEK to play it safe but I think the Deltran does the same job. When can we meet up ?
and I have the charger for sale at half the going rate that your good connector would be a fit for replacing my cracked one!
Why don't you build one of the pigtails that go from the Ferrari car connector to the CTEK connector? That is what Dealers do, see the Ferrari Dealer ad image below and note the small section of wire in the lower right of the box with two connectors on each end (3 orange stripes). This connects almost any Ctek charger with the Ferrari car without cutting wires on your charger or car. It sounded like your main objective was to have an OEM charger with the Ferrari Logo (Concours showing?) but if you just want to use a better, more modern CTEK with no wiring changes to the car or charger then this pigtail is your solution. Another person bought the 5Amp CTEK for $80 because it has several more charging modes. Total cost is $100 and shelve your old unit or swap the "Genuine Ferrari" sticker Image Unavailable, Please Login
That's exactly what I want to do except I have no idea how to do it. I couldn't care less if it says "Ferrari" on it. Hopefully my friend Billy (Scudf1) will be able to help me with this. Thanks
