Paypal OK?...... It's definitely been a saga! It does seem many folks are following the whole sorry tale.... Hopefully many are also iRacing users and we can get an Fchat league going. Cheers, Ian
Yep! They'll even give you "credits" (extended membership etc) if you slap their stickers on your car! I'm (obviously ) a complete noob, but this entire setup looks like way too much fun! I believe most of the tracks have now been scanned - The F1 guys use them in their simulators. That us "mere mortals" have access to such info I think is great! Cheers, Ian
There is prize money also. A friend of mine's nephew won $10K in iRacing's Nascar series: Conti Captures NASCAR PEAK Antifreeze Title
Get out there and run some laps! The learning curve is pretty huge so unless you want to be tooling around 3 seconds off the pace of the experienced guys, get going. You can read when your arms are tired
3 seconds off the pace sounds pretty good to me right now! Just about to do my first "test".... I'll report back.... Cheers, Ian
Let me know when you get the hang of it, maybe i'll throw up a hosted session with a car and track of your choice and smack you around a little
Wow! I had no idea there was that kind of money involved! Excuse my ignorance, I simply haven't checked, are there entry fees into that kind of tournament? Just did my first few laps in a Miata round Laguna; Very nice, but as you say, a *long* way to go before I open myself to ridicule here! One bummer is I somehow managed to tear the wires right out of the Butt Kicker. Now I can't find my "big" soldering iron to get it back together...... Hopefully it'll turn up soon. Cheers, Ian
The best way to learn, is to keep doing beginner races. Don't worry about what place you finish, just finish without any incidents. Move your way up to C class and then you can get into some harder cars and tuning settings. The spec series disappear the farther you go and now it relies more on setup. You can use the forums too a lot of guys post their setups, some are wayyy to loose for me but "loose is fast". I've been on for about a year and i have 2 2nd place finishes and a handful of top 5's in all different classes. Its frustrating when you pull the lap of your life and have this giant grin and you look at the leaderboard at the end of the race and the 1st place guy is 2.5 seconds faster.
Thanks for the comments. I've been away from "the rig" for a few days, but used (some of) that time to do some more reading/viewing; There's some great stuff on YT! - Basically, as we agreed above, as a rook, "keep yer nose clean!"...... Another rat-hole I've been down! As noted above, I'm struggling to "get" that there's truly a "feel" here, but I'm looking forward to trying! Another rat hole was it seems "we" have an Atlas logger onboard! I'm gonna say "congratulations!" Mind me asking how much time per week? Month? Day!? ..... Cheers, Ian
Got home & powered it all up. Both wheel & pedals are still recognized. Mini woot! But, now the brake pedal won't completely release! In the calibration window the clutch & go pedals are fine, but no matter where I set the load cell the brake shows ~20% "on" with the load cell at "zero". Crank it up, and the pre-application goes to a 100%! Back to the forums I guess. Cheers, Ian
I had the same problem with my pedals. Took 6 weeks to fix. New control board, new load cell, all I had to replace myself. Finally I had to send it to Fanatec for repair and now they work beautifully. If you're really itching for racing, pick up a set of G27 pedals on ebay for $50 and get the adapter cable to plug directly into the PC. I had to break out my old set just to keep running. (oddly enough I'm .25 a second faster with the G27 pedals). Test the pedal application in iRacing to see if it still works even with the 20% on. Mine would brake...then when I would release it would re-brake and then release so I would spin. I was probably doing an hour or 2 of practice a week then a race session on the weekend. All depended on how long the kip napped for.
Tell me about it!..... Know how Kimi must feel! Admittedly I haven't tried iRacing as yet, just the calibration screens on the PC, but suffice to say I'm not "optimistic". Another thing I found odd is that the damper loses it's oil! It almost looked like it had *never* been filled when I started. Filled it up, exercised the piston a few times, topped it off and reassembled - Was all good. When I got this "no release" problem I pulled it off again and checked the reservoir - Dry as a bone!..... I can't "feel" any dampness in the carpet, but suffice to say it's now sitting on some blu-roll..... Obviously didn't make any difference of course. Trying to "troubleshoot" online turns up much - including replacing their damper with one off an RC car (!) and moving the pivot up for better feel. What I haven't found is any "advice" for this non-release issue. Sounds awfully like they'll be going back to Fanatec. Cheers, Ian
Lemme know if you want to try the g27 pedals ill FedEx them out to you until you get on your feet then you can send them back.
I'll do you one better. I'll fedex him my fanatic pedal setup so he gets the feel for it . They're all in a box in the attic.
+1 Even the F1 forum seems to be coming round! Are you serious!? *Awesome*.... You're no longer using the Fanatec's? [I seem to recall you'd "moved on", but this is getting to be a long thread to search back thru!] Given your comments above, I'm about to get the (presumably?) required RMA # from them and ship mine back - I'm out of ideas - Hopefully, they'll come back as yours & "work beautifully!" PM next, but first another truly heartfelt public *thankyou*! I'll get there in the end, damnit! [It's sort of become an "intellectual challenge" now, and I'm not about to let a 'puter rig beat me! Never have, never will! ] Cheers, Ian
I did..... Still not home yet (did you send the pedals?), but at least I'm out of hospital..... I was tested more than a 2002 F1 car (!), and all appears back to normal. Staying with the G/F for a few days before heading back home & the sim!...... Thanks for the concern, Cheers, Ian
Wow! I started this thread and there was 2 posts in 6 months - so I gave up. Who knew there would be a flurry of activity since I am still loving iRacing -that's all I race! I am having a blast racing the IMSA series and RUF cup. Though work is killing me. I started with a 8 year old PC and a 22" monitor but that quickly went the way of the dodo. I changed the PC innards and added 2 other monitors - so life is good. I am using a Playstation G25 for the last 8 years and it is still working OK. The fanatec gear is great but more finicky.
