Looking very sharp!
Just saw this early Jalpa on eBay. Looks like a really nice example: Lamborghini Other 2 Door Targa | eBay Mike
you mean black paint on engine cover and black air intakes? If so, I thought so too. Is the car actually a 1981? No pictures of front trunk area? auction has ended already- if the car really is as nice as the auction stated, that was a very reasonable price.
the urraco tail light cars have black scoops and engine cover and the different air boxes. not sure when the cutoff was though. i thought around 83-84
My old Jalpa was an '83 (DLA12071) and doing some checking around back in the day when I owned it, it was probably about 3-4 vehicles after mine when they started painting the engine decklid and side air scoops the same as the body color. The Urraco tail lamps were used on the first 40 or so Jalpa's. On Raymond's Jalpa site he has all the changes on the Jalpa that were significant. Mike Image Unavailable, Please Login
I think 12073 is the first car with engine cover and air intakes paint in the same color as the rest of body. At that time MY beggan in september, 12073 was the first car producted in september 1983, it was the time where change appeared on cars. On early Jalpa there's also the oïl cooler fitted at the front, lot of parts came from Urraco/silhouette, certainly lot of parts was at the factory at the time they beggan the production and they used them, steering rack, wiper motor, suspension, brake system and also engine block...For making a 3;5 liter they just add a plate between 3 liter block and heads. After they used all the stock parts, specifics parts appeared on the Jalpa.
Here's the plate fitted on early Jalpa engine to convert the 3 liter to 3.5 Image Unavailable, Please Login
To the best of my knowledge the lowest VIN for Jalpa with single colour scheme and new style rear lights is DLA12068, RHD in UK.
DLA12071 has the oil cooler in the engine compartment with the exterior fuel filler and Jalpa lights, yet it has the twin colour scheme. A curious combination.
Makes sense, because DLA12069 was the first car with the oil Radiator in the engine bay and also the round taillights. But DLA12072 has also the two Color scheme, DLA12073 is uni-colored.
DLA12068, 12069, 12070, 12071, all had the oil radiator inside the engine compartment and presumably 12072 and 12073 also. All have Jalpa lights. So perhaps the paintwork was in transition during this period...
DLA12067 has no oil Radiator in the engine bay, and urraco taillights. DLA12077 is the last one I know with two tone Schema.
CLA12067 is a red herring. This is a 1982 car built as _LA12014 with Urraco instruments and engine #8. However for some reason this VIN was skipped and it was issued with CLA12067 retaining the correct C year letter. The skipped VIN was eventually issued as ELA12014.
you're right CLA12067 (wrong year) and ELA12014 are a Special Story. ELA12014 was clearly restamped, it was owned by Mimran. unfortunately I have no info/pictures about DLA12063-66.
Motorweek also achieved a 0-60 in 6 seconds. 1/4 mile was 14.5 sec at 93 mph. I remember seeing this review back in 1985 or 1986 and knew I needed one. The Jalpa review starts at the 13:00 mark: http://youtu.be/DB6Qwb-RO8M Mike
Gentlemen, I have a question that can probably be answered quickly and easily and I'm hoping you can help. I was having a discussion about the Jalpa recently and my friend was trying to convince me that the Jalpa shared many of the underpinnings with the BMW M1. His actual quote was, "it shares most of its construction and content with the BMW M1." That struck me as completely wrong, but I didn't want to say so without a few authoritative voices chiming in first. I know the general history of the M1, Lamborghini's inability to produce the cars, the Procar series, etc., but I've never heard anyone mention a connection between the Jalpa and the M1. There are no shared components, are there? The Jalpa was just an evolution of the Silhouette, correct? Thanks in advance.
