Hi Group, Picked up my car from mechanic today. Put the passenger window down and when I got home, shut the car off. Noticed the passenger window was 1/2 down, got in, turned the ignition and pressed switch to put the window up. Did not move. Pushed it to go down and it went down almost completely. Now it's stuck and won't move up or down when I try with the drivers side or passengers side switch. When I depress the switch, the passenger switch lights up green. Thoughts on how to correct this? When the window was working, the motor was quite strong.
If it's not a fuse problem, you should remove the door panel and have a look at the cable that pulls the window up and down. Chances are the cable is no longer lined up with the little wheels on the inside, or snapped. Or the window motor may have stopped working. Anyhow, you'll have to open it up.
Same happens on mine. There's a good chance it's the switch. The l/h front switch on mine is a bit temperamental. It might help to take it out and blast it with WD40 or similar. I'd say do the above before you get into taking out the motor. The're a ***** to deal with. Jeff
IMHO...switch. Change out from rear on same side to test...if so, approx $45USD delivered from Ricambi/Eurospares/FerrParts for new or perhaps contacts need a cleaning....?
So many options to check if the window is not working anymore It can even be low voltage of the battery while you still can start your ride. The switch might be the easiest to check by interchanging it from the driver's side. If that does not give any relieve start removing the panels I would say to see what you will find there. This post of Urs will definately help. http://www.ferrarichat.com/forum/mondial/481760-mondial-qv-side-windows-4-mls-4-secs.html
I also used contact cleaner. I turned off the battery, sprayed the contact cleaner around edges of switch and rocked the switch for a while. Let it dry and turned power back on. That was four years ago
Be careful spraying contact cleaner, many can stain or dissolve some plastics. Best to remove the switch and blast it with cleaner. Do check fuses and relays, just pull out the relays and put them in to make sure the contacts are solid. Or swap another of the same relay and see if that solves things. But it is almost certainly the switch. It is very easy to take off the door panels, there is a thread with that and photos, helps make sure you pry things at the right places and such. I used a product called Dexoit and dapped all the relays, fuses, and various wire connections with it, it is a conductive fluid that prevents corrosion and improves the electrical contacts.
Thanks everyone. A couple of questions: 1. Where do I purchase contact cleaner? 2. If the switch on the passenger side is faulty, it would also make the switch for the passenger window on the DRIVERs side not work? neither of the switches will put the window up.
I answered 1. above. WD40 or Deoxit are contract cleaners. Would still like to know the explanation of why Neither the driver or passenger side switch does not work. Doe depressing the Drivers side switch rely on a proper contact on the alternate switch?
If you hadn't already, a good check is to swap out the relay and try again. I just had the window motors quit and it turned out to be the relay. My 2cents.
Hello Group, I tackled the stuck window today. Did the following. Removed both the passenger and drivers side switch and swapped them. No luck. Cleaned both switches with WD40 and clicked them each 100 times. Replaced them and tried the window. No luck. Swapped out the relay for the window motors with another relay. No luck! Next weekend I will take the door panels off to see if the connection is intact and try the window motor. I have a feeling it's the motor.
WD 40 is NOT electrical cleaner! WARNING it just spreads the crap around and would need to be wiped off or may cause a conductive short that would blow a fuse Radio Shack and Walmart has Electrical Cleaner IT SAYS ELECTRICAL CONTACT CLEANER! so now lets do a few things does either switch work on the driver side? if so you have narrowed it down to only the driver side 1) FIRST you will need to remove the switches from the panel and spray the **** out of it with ELECTRICAL CLEANER to remove WD40 it is not meant for dc electricals! 2) you can check power to switch with an ohmmeter or idiot light probe 3) check the fuses 4) listen for the motor "energizing" with the switch if so a]sounds like motor may be jammed with grease there is a thread about cleaning the grease out of the motor b] if no sound again check for power at motor cable in the door with ohm meter or idiot probe
Hi Dfranzen, Thanks for the tip in the Electrical Cleaner. Will get some. 1. On Drivers side, the drivers window switch works (makes the drivers side window go up and down) 2. Neither the Drivers side OR passenger side switch work for the passenger window. 3. When I depress either switch, I hear no sound at the passenger motor I will remove the switches now. Which fuse is for the passenger window?
Hi Bruno, try the passenger's side window switch on the drivers side, because at this moment you have not ruled out the passenger's side window switch (you can have 2 problems). They are the same, left and right. You know the driver's side is working so if the passenger's side window switch will not work for the driver's side, which I doubt, then the switch is not working. Keep us posted. Ps. Like Don said regular WD-40 is no contact cleaner. Unless you have this one: Electronic Contact Cleaner - WD-40 Specialist Image Unavailable, Please Login
Bruno, did you check if you have contact with massa (negatif). Take a wire direct from negatif battery to the black on window motor and try again with your switch. Massa in the door are often neglected. Guido
it puzzles me, the passenger motor is doing the down direction, right? So switch or relay are very good candidates for the solution. Now, let's wait if the pass switch will do fine on the driver side...and a last resort, once you have the window motor at sight, switch the polarity on the connector (once did that one a sunroof motor, et voila, it worked the other direction so now it had to be the switch/relay itself), cheers braq
I tried the driver's side switch on the passenger side and still no movement. The window does not go down anymore as it's in the full down position.
questions: 1. Does the motor, in any situation engage at all, or even make/made a sound like it was trying? 2. IF 1 is true, and from what I'm reading it went 'down' did it do so slowly and/or just stop in the process? - IF the above 2 is true, I'm now thinking [and I don't recall a cutout switch involved] that the grease might be too old. But I would assume the motor is still in working [mark engagement] order. IF not, the motor may be out of commission now. BTW: IF this is a Cabriolet, I'd definitely have the rear, passenger side window looked at soon as well or don't use until done. The rear driver's side window is easier to fix in up/down position vs passenger's side rear....ESPECIALLY in the passenger side rear is down: Real hard to get to.
I just got to thinking. I had this issue not long ago and found my switch to be tempremental. BUT If you just can't trace the problem and you can get to the connector with a volt meter you can test for power thu the relay. Also, when I had the motor out of mine the power connectors had some oxidisation on them. The contacts could be worth cleaning with a soft wire brush or emery paper.
As asked before try the passenger switch in the driver side to rule out any switch problem at this point disconnect the motor harness and if you can see if you can "jumper" the motor with a hot wire OR take out motor only and plug it into the driver motor harness
