Not only on his birthday, he found out in an email from Ron Dennis' assistant! And again the option expirt date come and went and they didn't give any communication. What a sh*t way to run an organization.

Kevin Magnussen confirms split with McLaren

I really don't see the upside for Renault in this given the staggering debt of Lotus.

I know F1 is a hard business, but that's no way to treat anyone. Surely McLaren has HR people who know how to do these things properly.

Funny how a BBC Rallycross item involving Button and Coulthard develops into a Button Rallye career....

Already old news; McLaren confirmed Button and Alonso for 2016.

Dennis confirms Alonso and Button will stay at McLaren in 2016, despite Alonso radio rant // F1 News // James Allen on F1 ? The official James Allen website on F1

Money and connections trump talent, no surprise here.... Would have been nice to see Verne get a chance to drive a decent car.

Gene Haas just said (BBC interview) that they are going to announce the next driver on Friday night in Mexico.

Seems like that confirms it's Guttierez to me.

    Makes sense.

I guess he just got handed off to Sky - They're interviewing him now!

    Cheers,

I meant Sky - my bad.

Should be a pretty cool announcement - Mexicans should go insane.

There was a good interview with Lettuce also prior. He basically said explicitly that he thought the Haas move was his best way to get to Ferrari.

Pulling out my crystal ball, would be good to see Lettuce do well, Rossi do well, then have Lettuce replace Kimi at some point, then have Rossi replace Lettuce.

Either way, nice to see some good scenarios for Ferrari, Haas, the US, and a US driver.

He won in his 4th year in GP2 and was beater soundly by his teammates Ericsson and Nasr in 2012 and 2013. Funny enough, his teammate Pastor Maldanado won his GP2 title in his 4th year in GP2 as well.

He beat Nasr and Vandoorne (2015 champ) in 2014 though no?

Just saying, he clearly has talent. As to if there are more deserving drivers of being in F1, isn't that almost always the case?

There are drivers who win championship in lower categories and turn to be average once they are promoted to F1.

Beside, you can also have drivers who never won any championship before, but become F1 world champions; like James Hunt, or Niki Lauda for example.

Under the old F1, F2 & F3 formulas becoming F2 champ was like a kiss of death if one wanted to become an f1 champ.

Very true in many years. Remember Jean-Pierre Jarier, for instance? F2 champ, and not one Grand Prix to his name.
