She should indeed do better at VIR.
Roger that. Yah I would think that, in theory*, more front camber should help. I run far more on my m3 - about -2 but that required some changes to stock suspension. I've always heard that toe out in the rear can make cars unstable vs toe in. Makes sense to me, but I have limited seat time. Also consider a corner balance as well. I honestly haven't done much to my scud in terms of setup because I'm fairly happy w it. I'll definitely post before/after as I get more aggressive w it. Might do so over the winter service and or adjust next season. I also upped the width of the front and rear MPSS, but will go with cup2's next as the tires are holding me back at this point. Not sure how relevant it actually is but, you want to be careful about disturbing the side aero on the scud with fat front wheels. Those lower intakes in the rear need air to plant the ass at high speed. Good luck and look forward to your resultsand thoughts.
Seems odd - I haven't been able to stop driving this car - 4200 miles. I rarely see any traffic but when stopped for a while, over 1 minute, the car went from 1 to N and started beeping at me. I had never left her in 1 and not moved for that long. Is this normal? Thanks
I have never left it in 1st that long, but I believe others do. I don't recall anything in the manual about that - not sure if that is normal. Perhaps the clutch PIS (clutch engagement) point isn't set properly? Does the car roll backwards in 1st with no brake or throttle (correct), or does it sit there (not normal)? Any idea what the clutch life is currently? The only time I've had it go from in-gear to neutral is when trying to shift under load and while losing traction at the track. I ended up actually having an internal transmission leak at some point after. Not sure if the two events are related.
It will go back to neutral after a while when standing still in 1st unless you have your foot on the brake. Completely normal.
Congrats on an awesome job. I love to see people repairing things, especially beautiful automobiles like the Scud. I'm glad you stuck with it and got it going. And in such amazing time too. Very impressive. Again, great job. I love to see the result of talented, skilled people's hard work. We need more people like you in this country. I do hope you paint it and get it looking beautiful again though. I love a car that looks as good as it works.
Awesome awesome thread. Enjoyed reading through every bit. You are a lengend! Sent from my SM-N910G using Tapatalk
Thank you guys for the votes of confidence! Well after the last track event, I thought it would be good to add some downforce for VIR. I wont have the time to put in the 430 cage - Thank you DeeGee!! But the challenge aero is going on as well as lowering the car about an inch. The front bumper is full carbon and weights in at 13#'s w the front splitter. Nice piece wish I knew who made it... Anyone recognize it - looks like 2x2 pattern. Since I will use the Scud on both the track and the street, I am going to set her up with 2 "packages". Challenge car aero & much lower suspension, and street car bumper @ normal ride height. Now what will happen when she's low with the stock springs? May need to get a higher rate spring in there. This car is worth spending some time to make better on track, its so fast on the straits and the trans is much bettter then both the 360&430 CH cars. The hard part is since its heavy it needs more mechanical grip then the little 8" wide front wheels can give and it would be awesome to get 18" wheels under her as the choices of rubber are much better. Its going to be an interesting winter... Image Unavailable, Please Login Image Unavailable, Please Login
The cage caught my eye. Will you need to cut the dash in order to fit it? I know AI DESIGN did a one off for their client but that involved cutting the dash. Sent from my SM-N910G using Tapatalk
Cant do it, stock dash is perfect, I won't cut it. But...I wonder if my 360CH dash would accommodate the Scud gauge cluster? I bet its lighter too.
You can get a rollcage from "Safety Devices" that requires no cutting of the dash... This is fitted to the 360 but it also goes in a F430. I saw that Ai cage previously - looks really nice! Any particular reason you didn't go with the OE "rollbar"?
It was chosen because it can easily be removed with very little effort. The car is a low mile example and not being used as a track car. So the safest cage that was not too intrusive and can be removed without altering the car in any way. Those were the parameters.
Wow! So you're the lucky owner of that awesome scud with that awesome rollcage! I'm a huge fan! Well done! Sent from my SM-N910G using Tapatalk
Both of those cages are awesome, for me I really wanted the 430CH cage. I like modifying Ferraris with other Ferrari parts when possible. The 430 cage is immensely strong and includes side impact provisions, I've seen them take a hell of beating and protect the occupant. After all - you can always buy another car. With the addition of the CH cage I would not hesitate to switch to CH doors as well, the light doors & heavier cage should net me some weight loss and be safer in the event of a mistake. I'm a bit spoiled as I'm used to driving a CH car that weighs in @ 2650# with a 1/2 tank. The Scud would really shine -150#. Does anyone know if I can fit 18" wheel with the 6piston brembo GT kit, 15" rotors vs the CCM size 15.75"? I have a set in house and 18" wheels would be lighter and give much better rubber choices. A quick look at the differences was too close to call. I know this will sound crazy but the with the steel rotor conversion the stock fronts brakes are a bit too much for a 235 slick.
This project continues to inspire. I *believe* the 355mm and 365mm GT kit will work with 18s, but the 380mm requires 19s. Best to confirm with a shop that does a lot of them. Stock carbon brakes are 398mm (as are 430CH) as you probably know. CS brakes and F430 are 380mm. I have the 365mm kit on my m3 and can run 18s, but don't. A lot of people do for the reason you mention - better tire options. One thing I will mention as well is that you might want to check out the brake ducting also from a CH car. I have all the pieces here waiting to go on my scud but just have too many projects and responsibilities and not enough time. I was able to pick them up off ebay and from other sources for a fraction of the original price - they are all carbon as you probably know. Good luck!
Came out great...I considered adding it at one point. Interestingly, Ai said they never built a jig for it, so the car had to be there in person, which was one of the negatives at the time. I figured they would have because I believe they have built a few at this point for Scuds.
Good point. Doesn't make sense to stop at one. Such an awesome product. Sent from my SM-N910G using Tapatalk
