It states in the article listed here that Glickenhaus bought 002 based on the research of Marcel Massini and others: http://www.cafespa.com/full_story.php?news=000034&title=The-Oldest-Ferrari-in-Existence&comment=on&f=5&t=26

They are obviously friends or at least know each other from the picture below. My guess is that Marcel's findings don't agree with Jim's and he doesn't want to upset his friend by posting those findings; or Jim has actually commissioned the report, paid for it, and now owns the copyright to the report, the findings of which do not agree with his. It would be a safe bet that if Marcel's findings agreed with Jim's we'd certainly know about it with those findings being posted/published at least here and in the 0846 pdf. The silence speaks volumes.

If I had something valuable and believed it to be 100% original and worth 100% value, if someone came out publicly and said it was less than 100% original and therefore somewhat less valuable, then I would probably sue the **** out of them.

But you wouldn't sue if they had come out publicly and said they agreed with your belief.

Oh, and you actually need grounds to win a law suit against someone.

10% of the time, 90% of the time you just need bigger coffers to provide bigger headaches and you still win. just the threat of that gets done 99% of what you want without even winning.

I'm sure any report Marcel Massini has made in the past and will prepare in the future is to the best of his knowledge and has disclaimers attached that will stand up in law. If he was afraid of being sued he wouldn't prepare any reports at all.

I disagree, any report has risks, but risks can range from minimal probability and minimal damage to high probability and significant damage.

The issue is that those with deep pockets have the ability to intimidate by just threatening legal action. Truth is going to be a long way down the road in the legal process. That course may even come with multiple appeals which will draw it out even longer.

Any professional person whether they be a mechanic, lawyer, doctor etc has the risk of being sued for negligence. Nothing would ever get done if everyone didn't do the job they were commissioned/paid to do for fear of being sued.

There is something called Professional Indemnity/Liability Insurance that most professionals take out to protect themselves and/or their businesses against legal action.

I think you are just arguing to argue, because you are sounding like a complete trolling ******* again.

Can you not comprehend the various ranges of risk and damage?

Can you not understand mechanics, lawyers, and doctors have insurance that covers representation and liability?

    Either...

Threatening will allow you to get your way, which is apples to apples what we're talking about.

Actually suing a mechanic, lawyer, or doctor will prompt a call to insurance and in most cases there will be a negotiation or defense. That is not apples to apples what we're talking about here!

Armchair historians or even professional historians don't have insurance backing that many professional trades have, especially at levels in the 8 digits! There is no good reason for the established historians to take a public stance on 0846, because for one they aren't benefiting financially and the risk/damage potential is very high. Cavallino or Forza wouldn't even step into this for the risk/damage.

The only exception might be a private benefactor or a group that would be motivated to put their bigger pile of money to work for whatever reasons. Maybe other owners of P cars or significant Ferraris.

I am not a complete trolling *******, never have been and not arguing to argue. By your reasoning no car of high value or to the value of 8 digits would ever get a report prepared by those in the business of preparing such reports.

again, you don't understand the risk! educate yourself on some basic principles. Take most of the other P cars or GTO's. Cavallino has written about them, Forza has written about them, there are books, they are Ferrari Classique certified, they have been shown and critiqued at the top international concours. There might be little stories, but stories like Ferrari wrote it off, Piper had something he didn't know about, etc etc.

Some 20 posts ago, the question of whether there is a Marcel Massini report (or not) is posed but not answered. From that question this thread has turned into a Michael Chriton novel about the billionaire collector, the lawsuit against the expert, the one man with the truth.........

What if Marcel did do a report and what if he didn't. He himself stated at the beginning of this thread what his connection to this car is and until and if additional evidence comes to hand how would he possibly be able to report anything else? Since there may not be any report at all nor one in the works all of the talk of lawsuits is somewhat premature, I would like to concentrate on an statement from Steve that Marcel and Jim are either friends or at least know each other. Jim owns 412P #0854, Modulo and the Dino PF special as well as #0846 so their paths must have to have crossed at various times, this world being a fairly small one. Is the point that they are friends posed as a question or an attack? I would trust that we have enough integrity to not try and attack any future commentary by Marcel based on a perceived conflict of interest.

While there is no proof or reliable eyewitness testimony, this is still purely theoretical. And that'll bring us nowhere. We need more details...

What car is shown in these pics? 0846 did not exist as a complete car in 1991.

    Dear James,

After studying the P3/P4 Chassis in the car owned today by you I confirm that this is the original P3 Chassis that I modified in December 1966 to accept a P4 engine and that this original modified chassis then went on to win The 1967 24 Hours Of Daytona.
