+1 the story for this is far from over and possibly just the beginning. We know the deficit to Mercedes for the other top teams is immense. More LH vs Nico to be expected. Until the other teams develop the power required, LH vs Nico is real game for next year in my opinion.

Well if he goes back to Ron Dennis than I see no point why he should refuse to work with anyone as long as he gets a good car...Or did I understand you wrong and you ment Toto would not hire him, this might be more likely as long as Mercedes still wins without him as well, things might change when the dominance is over...

Edit: Caught up. Rosberg pole, Ham 2nd. Like I said, Ham will probably win tomorrow.

I'd be nice to see them race wheel to wheel more. With Nico's luck, and his tons of mechanical DNFs, we haven't seen that except very few times. And yes, the diva has beat him most of those times. It might be closer than we think with more races and Nico with better mental attitude (not so many mechanical DNFs), but his f***ing car needs to stop breaking down. Oh well. At least I hope to see Vettel and Nico duke it out on the final races.

 

Nico only has one more DNF this season. And it's not close at all, 10 to 3 wins so far and 11 to 5 last year.

 

I find it interesting that as soon as the championship is essentially decided, Nico finds the pace for some poll positions and, now that Lewis has the third title, Nico looks far more relaxed this weekend. I wouldn't be surprised if he finds some aggression and seriously fights Lewis for the win.

His problem doesn't seem to be a lack of pace or racecraft (he's driven well against other teams), it's that he seems to overanalyze things when fighting with the championship contender. I think it's a mental block with him.

Next year, he needs to take a leaf out of the Lauda/Hamilton playbook:

All his personality deficiencies aside (much like a Sith Lord), there are very few on the grid now who match Hamilton for ruthless aggression. That's the aspect that Rosberg struggles with - he's too much of a gentleman on the track and not assertive enough off it.

The fake part of Hamilton, that becomes really annoying, is when he tries to conceal his ruthlessness in interviews by deflecting questions onto how great the fans are, how blessed he feels, how privileged he is to drive for Mercedes, etc. If he was more honest about his aggression, and also less of a socialite poseur, he'd actually be more likeable.

Concur. In the interviews in Mexico there was no mention of understeer or lack of traction in turn 1 at Austin. He said something to the effect of, "Nico should know he can't go around the outside of me; I wouldn't try that on him." So which is it?

He also said something like, "Nico always has some complaint; you almost never catch him happy". LOL

They obviously hate each other; they should just be honest about it.

That's what I like about Vettel - he seems genuine to me - take it or leave it.

I can't see how they can keep Nico on the same team. They've done a good job so far controlling it, but at some point this is going to start to affect the entire team IMHO. I could easily see them taking each other out in Mexico. We shall see.

 

Rosberg should start to emulate Bottas and say to himself "No, you are not going to take my line!", and sees what happens.

If Hamilton yields, OK, if he doesn' they will crash but at least Rosberg would have put a marker on his team mate. Hamilton has to be caught a few times by his team mate and he will change his approach. Otherwise Rosberg will never get respect.

Bottas explained himself perfectly today after his clash with Raikkonen :"It's my line and if someone closes on me and don't leave me space, I am not budging!" Rosberg should adopt that mentality.

 

Mercedes have nothing to complain from Rosberg, he score points, gets poles and the occasional wins.

As for Rosberg, he is in the best team at the moment, driving the best car.

There is no alternative.

 

There are plenty of worthy number 2 driver candidates out there that are far cheaper than Rosberg...

 

Agree...analytical types can be bound by over-analysis and quests for perfection. Nico looks flawless when leading the grid, but quite different when dicing. I don't think he can just change his personality though. He needs to focus more on the bigger picture and less on his teammate. That could at least push him beyond tightening up when facing down other drivers.

Ham's always been an aggressive guy, but how many drivers has he crashed out? There was the whole Massa deal a few years back, but he generally seems able to pass without causing dnf's.

Article brings up more questions that it's (so desperately) trying to answer. And the BBC seems to part of the LH marketing department these days.

- LH is so dominant but wasn't able to catch Rosberg during the race ? (or keep Rosberg from 4 pp's in a row for that matter).
- So LH wanted to exploid Nico's pitstop ? but would Rosberg have pitted if he hadn't been assured Lewis would too ??
- Wasn't this pit strategy part of pre-race strategy meeting ?
- Securing a 1-2 in the title race is priority for the team, thus Rosberg winning safely/on fresh tyres suits everyone, equally a safe second place for LH.

Not the first LH performance that leaves a taste of disingenuous in my mouth; his crowding Rosberg off track (while making backhanded excuses on the radio; "sorry team shouldn't have done that"), trying to exploit a Rosberg pitstop.....

 

The pit stop was Plan B according to the radio call to LH...must have been something they planned for just in case...so to speak.
