Not sure sure about your claim about Boeing vertical stabs.

Pilots are human, and thus are apt to make mistakes at times. Would not surprise me that if asked the ALPA would state that no fatal crashes have ever been the result of pilot error.

I suspect either a surface-to-air missile or an internal bomb.

JAL123 crash......7 years after a repaired rear fuselage after a tail strike suffered a mid-air disintegration and crashed into a mountain. So..while it wasn't a full in-flight breakup, it was years and many cycles after a tail strike repair that caused the issue...so.it can happen...

    https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Japan_Airlines_Flight_123

Still, given the area of occurance, it is extremely suspicious though.....

Tail separation due to faulty maintenance is sounding less and less likely if our satellites detected a "flash" at the time the plane went down.

could those be from it hitting the rocky ground, then somebody picking it up and standing in its side against the plane?

That flash could have come from the airplane after break up. I'm sticking to Taz's statement that ISIS doesn't have the missiles that can fly that hi. I still think that the tail came off in flight after a structural failure. Trace of the airplane's descent indicates an abrupt nose dive intact.

7000 gallons (48,000 lbs) of Jet A makes for a pretty good IR flash signature if it burns on impact, and the wet wings were burned to a crisp from the photos.

Oh I agree with you, I don't think ISIS has the equipment to shoot down a jetliner at altitude. I leaning towards bomb on board, though.

If we rule out a missle I think this makes more sense than an IR signature of a small explosive going off internally.

I don't buy the fuel tank explosion theory but I'm sure they have to check each one to be sure.

To me it looks like a bomb in the rear cargo compartment or brought onboard in overhead luggage near the rear of the plane.

Mayor I find myself in agreement with you on the speculation

Hard to say though, and we have recently had two near fatal engine fires but for the planes had yet to take off.

Maybe it's just parts produced in China/Mexico etc

True, but to have an engine on the wing explode with enough force to rip the tail part of the plane (not the tail but the fuselage) doesn't make any sense to me.

When the fuel tank exploded on the TWA 747, there was a lot more damage to the plane by fire.

Here is a recreation. What a terrible way to go. Lets hope that at the higher altitude of this event they didn't have time to suffer.

    [ame]http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Lbny8XnAifY[/ame]

Remember that Yousef bomber guy who planted a chemical bomb under the seat of a flight from the Philippines to Tokyo was trying to explode the fuel tank below his seat. He planted the bomb under his seat on the connecting flight and then left.

    https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Philippine_Airlines_Flight_434

The bomb wasn't powerful enough to tear the plane apart but had the idea of rupturing the fuel tank underneath that would bring the plane down.

"What kept the disaster from being worse was that this particular 747, formerly operated by Scandinavian Airlines as SE-DFZ "Knut Viking", had a different seating configuration and seat 26K was two rows forward of the center fuel tank so that the hole in the floor punched through to the cargo hold [2] instead and spared the plane from a fiery explosion."

Even if a fuel tank exploded on this Russian plane, it could still be a bomb. And, like Yousef, it could have been planted hours before anyone even boarded the plane.

Agreed, considering the takeoff form Egypt, probably plenty of disgruntleds working at the airport there.

Bombs will show residue, and wreckage will show how it all failed. There will be no mystery here, just a function of time for forenscs to do their job.

But that could be from a fire on the ground.
