Please note in the second picture the space between the distributors. You can see the opening on the right side upper camshaft cover. This is where the fuel injection pump is mounted. It sticks out between the distributors and the coils Pump is removed from this car.
Thanks for the information. So what we can see on these cars then is probably just a different cold air box or air filter arrangement which displays the main body of the fuel injection unit, which look like carburettors?
Sorry, just read your post again. Do you mean that the removal of the fuel injection pump means they could be carbs?
Re pics in post 9140: What I don't understand is that the bottom picture has hollow, open trumpets at the same position/level/height above the engine as what I thought (wrongly) are the main body of the carburettors, which is actually the fuel injection in the top colour picture. Her are pictures of 412P motor with carbs. Probably will generate more questions. Note the spacers under the carps. they are about 2 inches high, plus the manifolds. The FI units are set further down between the heads. There is a lot of space there. p Image Unavailable, Please Login
Thanks for the fabulous pics. The FI units of the P3s in the colour pics at Le Mans 66 seem to be sitting at the same level as the carbs on the 412P pictured, not lower down as they must be on the P3 in the b&w pic in my post above.
Notice the difference of the trumpet clearance cut into the rear window in all the different pictures. The half moon cut out is a different height in almost every picture. The fuel systems seem to be a bit different on each car. Especially the early 1966 car vs the latter ones and the 412. I would submit the early FI system was using a lower manifold and butterfly system on the first cars. Just a guess, we need more photos P
