Looking at 28' to 30' deep
    12' ceilings
    (3) Regular double door widths (but one is high for truck / trailer / boat) with extra on the sides.

There will be open truss above 4 of the bays for storage which we could use more of.

Never underestimate how much storage you will need. I thought my shop was big enough until I got everything in it and decided I needed a mezzanine for storage.

Just wondering, how did you get the car off the lift? Jack up the one corner, reset the cable and let it down?

not trying to hijack your thread sir.but with a lot of people in the know here its a perfect time to ask.
We are moving into our new house in the spring...the ceiling is only 9 feet high.
I want to do my own engine out service, Has anyone ever done one with a 9 foot ceiling and a lift? recommendations?

I'd like to build a 6 car garage as well (3 wide, 2 deep).

Please post pictures of progress as you go! I love garage builds. :D

If removing the rear bumper on the 348 how much do I still need to lift the car for an engine-out service?

    Here's the QuickJack:
    • Platform lifting height (frame only): 18.5” / 470 mm.
    • Platform lifting height (with rubber lift blocks): 22” / 559 mm.
    • Minimum collapsed height: 3” / 76 mm.
    • Rubber block position MIN: 35.5” / 902 mm.
    • Rubber block position MAX: 50.5” / 1283 mm.
    • Frame width: 11.25” / 286 mm.
    • Frame length: 69” / 1753 mm.

Mohawk is great. No problems so no issues with service. Built solid.

That was probably 5+ years ago but I remember a neighbor with a truck pulling back on a tow strap and somehow lowering the corners that were on the stops. It took some time and some head scratching. Directlift was good about sending someone to repair it, probably because they didn't want me posting pictures anywhere.

I have been told this style of lift is not optimum for an engine out. The reason has to do with the arc of the lift as it raises the car. For an engine out the best is to lift the car straight up and down off the engine cradle. These lifts move the car up and forward/down and backwards which can make it difficult lining things up.

Couple things i can tell you from my garage. Install high lift doors with side mounter jackshaft doors. When buying a four post lift make sure you get one that can be levelled by the posts. Install lots of lights and extra plugs as well as slope atleast 1 bay for washing with a sump. If i was too do mine again i would also cast a recessed floor where my four post goes so i would not need ramps. They are a terrible pain. I would also coat the concrete with an epoxy so oil etc does not get absorbed.
Did I mention the turntable like the Bat Cave!!

Also budget for the bigger walk in closet for your wife!!

That would be a perfect solution for me. Rented workshop - not allowed to put a 4 or 2 poster in.

    Has anyone used one ?

I have 3 ......4 post super lifts .. I bought them several years ago and they have performed flawlessly for me over the years... they at the time offered us models and china models i bought the US models .. one thing I like is they had a chrome kit with diamond plate on the runners and ramps and chrome on various other pieces and were finished in a nice red so they were by far the best looking lifts...

Yeah, I'm trying to figure out what that's about too. I know what it means just not what the heck it's about. If you're going to thow a comment out there like that you should at least give some sort of explanation.

Correct and not to derail the thread anymore, it was because I have never seen *anything* like hanging a veh off of a lift like that. Much less the front shock towers taking all of that weight...
