The larger the plenums the more air the engine has available to supply for combustion. Does that help or is that what you're looking for?

Right side feeds left, left side feeds right. Point is being able to get longer intake runners under the hood. That idea started with dodge in the 70's then was picked up again with the 85 corvette with the TPI injected engines. Nothing new here. Pretty much standard practice.

Henry- Something definitely was rubbing on those intake covers. Funny that it is pretty much symmetrical.

Worn/loose engine mounts causing movement when you let the horses loose? Maybe the engine is somehow tilting when under load - are there no marks under the bonnet?

I know, I shouldn't, and apologies in advance, but seeing that reply and then your membership status as 'Consultant' just made me laugh. :) I'll get my coat...

First off the passenger side air box looks like its been dislocated- why? Was the car in an accident?

I have a tiny tiny tiny bit of rubbing of the hood insulation on the air plenum like pictured here but what I have experienced is extremely minor and actually it was the plenum just gently cooking the insulation. I always figured it was high speed track days :) But what you see there is many times more and also in locations I don't have. The image is telling me this is a car to avoid.

The hood insulation on these cars tends to sag after a few years. Especially with engine heat and heat from the sun. When it sags it may sit on the intake plenums and rub the finish off. Yes, that's all it takes. It's purely cosmetic.
