Biased towards the spider with the top down. But top up, prefer the coupe
Since yesterday i love the Spider its more visceral the link driver-engine And with 24ºC temperature with nice sun in Portugal its a nice combination... Image Unavailable, Please Login
Spider looks good with the top down. With the top up they try to look like a coupe but the roof line is crap. True sports cars are coupes, they all have that lovely sloping roof line. Coupe for me. I have one so not biased at all! + they are lighter, handle better and go faster! Spider with hard top could sway me.
I love the curve of the engine roof vents when viewing the coupe from the rear and the extra glass area shows the engine off better than the Spider. If contemplating a purchase you should consider the potential expense of a Spider roof malfunction. Not jut asthetics. This is more likely as these cars get older.
It's always the coupe! That is the pure car IMO. Spiders might be more fun but they give some of the intent away in a supercar. JMHO of course.
Obviously a very personal choice. I have owned two GTS (308 and 328) as well as an F355 spider. While top down driving is great fun, I have always felt convertibles are too feminine. I always joked that I drove a "hairdresser's Ferrari". When it came time to replace my F355 spider, I only considered F430 coupes....ended up with a Scuderia. I really don't think others opinions matter much...get whichever you prefer, and never look back.
I just find the overall look to be more purposeful and masculine. But again, just my personal view, and I have no problem with someone else preferring a convertible. I am certainly not "anti convertible". lol
From a styling perspective, I like the coupe much better But understand the top-down driving experience.
Coupe. I am biased but I like the sweeping line the roof forms through to the tail of the car. And the better IMHO view the glass on the coupe deck gives into the engine bay. On a perfectly sunny day though roof lines don't matter .
I like the lines on the coupe a little better, but the sound of the spider roof down is intoxicating, especially when driven in a little anger...hence why mine is a spider. Bottom line is you cannot go you wrong with either!
The main differences between the two are from the driver's seat back toward the tail lid. (obviously) I do like the better view of the engine from the coupe's vantage points. You seem to lose some of that from the interior over your shoulder with the spider or from standing outside. I agree that when I was growing up - almost all the supercars had a fixed roof - f40, countach, 959. But today - many are open air - F50, Carrera GT, the special editions... The rear view on both are very nice - although different - with the raised lid as a focus or the hoops. The coupe's only real negative to me is the extra weight that it carries on the C pillar - it appears a little less refined and blocky back there especially from rear 3/4 view. The spider's only real negative to me is the area between the seat and the rear scoop above the seatbelt. The shell area seems too plain and "plasticky" - screaming for a more refined solution. Seems like it was created in a fiberglass surf shop back in the 70's... See the attached pics for what I mean. I like the spider in principle for better connection to the engine noise and weather (sometimes) here in AZ (if it's not too cold in the evening, or too blinding with the sun, other times...). But I also think the coupe can give you a good bit of that just with windows down in a positive way. Since we have a challenge car already, it might make more sense to try a Ferrari spider. I have never owned a convertible - My head says I am more likely to enjoy the coupe all the time - and would only enjoy the spider with the top down some of the time. All good comments from the group. Thanks for those. Robb Image Unavailable, Please Login Image Unavailable, Please Login
Well, at least yours is the right color, Spiro, but I vote coupe. I just find that the lines flow better on the coupe. And with the top up, the Spider top always looks a little bit like an afterthought, and doesn't seem to fit right. Here's an idea... We can park next to each other at C&C for a side by side comparison. Image Unavailable, Please Login
Yeah, so many repeat that yet so few have experienced it. If you jack a Spider up from its rear point the front tire raises right along with it and the doors still operate freely. This was true for an F355 and the F430 Spider is even stiffer. Drive a Spider at speed and you won't be saying "I wish it was stiffer like the coupe", more like "Holy crap! This thing is a blast!". This is a total non-issue.
