I think it's you who's under an illusion my friend. Again, scud prices have risen on average in the neighborhood of 20% in two years. If you want to pretend that's just inflation, that's your choice.

As a further data point, last year, my insurance company set an agreed upon value of my scud of $202,000. This year, they raised it to $252,000. Not saying my car's worth that, but clearly the insurance company, who is motivated to pay out as little as possible, believed that prices were on the rise. I know, it's just inflation.

Be careful, the whole "Scud pricing guide"-discussion is depending on the period under consideration and, also important, we are talking about an a) used product which is b) no longer built in exactly this form. That means here playing extremely the laws of supply and demand. And because the supply is strongly limited and clear the incalculable demand leads to a very volatile price behavior which does not have much to do with the inflation. IMO it makes not a lot of sense to stress the inflation topic in this context.

For example: A share with an eight-year performance of -15% (someone who bought his Scud new in 2008) could have been in the last two years one of the top performers with a capital gain of +50% (someone who bought his Scud in 2013).

Of course, at the end of an investment process you can always compare the results with the inflation rate. Often just to get the finding, it would be better to keep the money at the bank.

When we are talking about appreciation vs inflation there is one very important factor that we have to keep in mind. The purchase and the item in question. If you are talking about houses, then yes. The rule applies in most cases. However, if you are talking about a purchase of any car that traditionally depreciates the minute you purchase it, then No. Since the scuderia doesn't fall into this car category what do you call the rise in prices?

The key is that its all about timing as it is with many investments but there is no doubt whatsover that SCUD's recently have evolved into classic status and 16M's into super rare classic status. When this thread was started, we had a really good US car priced at something like $160K. In Switzerland SCUD prices have risen by 30% in the last 12 months and in many instances the local currency has strengthened vs other countries too. The MAYOR was right "its a bargian somebody should pick it up" !

That is DannyBoy's 3rd or 4th ban now for personal attacks. When do mods step in and say enough? Sending him to the digital naughty corner doesn't seem to be teaching him much.

Yup. Scuderias have gone up! I can't pat Dannyboy on the back and say job well done as the whole market has moved up. For years I've watched the price difference between the Stradale and Scuderia. In 2009, the Scuderia held a $100k premium OVER the Stradale. Then it was $50k...and now the Stradale trades at par to $50k over depending on the example.

Sure...the Scuderia has gone up. As have the F512M, 512TR, 512BB, 16M, 599 GTO, CS, and so on..

Still a great car and it's on my shopping list.

Just for they casual observer to not be misled. Scuds never hit 260 to 275k here on the US this summer - more made up figures.

He's Canadian, lives in ONT...but I don't believe he is talking CDN prices...he has never said that was the case, ever. And when he gives examples of asking prices, they are always USA dealers.

Agreed, his wild claims of what prices were last summer, were exaggerations, but the actual numbers are slowly getting closer...

Hi all: New market data. I just sold my 2009 Scuderia 16M for $375k with 2440 miles. I purchased it in October of 2014 for $264 with 869 miles. The car paid me nicely to drive it for a year, eh? To bad taxes and such ate a good bit of my upside. As much as I my heart raced while driving it, she and I were not the right match. I'm not sure what is next for me, but there will be a Ferrari in my future sometime again. Please accept my sincere appreciation for the great information and guidance this site provided me during my first F car ownership experience.

Have you seen Richard, autoscout24.ch is offering 12 Scuderia's (and two M16) at the moment.
Price range from CHF 179'500.- (red, 03/2008 with 19'900km) to CHF 299'900.-. (10/2009 with 2'400km). In between you find everything, for example a 04/2008 with 53'000km for CHF 249'000.-.

I guess the supply exceeds the demand, I can not imagine that these car will found a new owner on this price level. It seems many Scud owners give it a try to sell on this pricing.
