Hi everybody, My first and only Ferrari is my actual 2011 458 Italia. I bought it obviously pre-owned with 2300 miles. How difficult could it be for me to order a new 488 from a dealer at this point?. Is it impossible or not?
Where do you live? If not in the US, then no problem at all. If in the US, other Fchatters can comment better than I. I suppose if your name would be Kobe Bryant, the answer would also be "no problem at all". Onno
Here in the EU you can just go in off the streets at get one. If you're in the US, why not go and ask the dealer that sold you the 458?
Tato, I was told that the avg wait list is approx 18 months in the USA. I wound up buying my 2014 458 at the dealer where I placed my 488 allocation request to entice them to speed up the process. While it certainly is a FNA allocation issue, the local dealer won't allocate a buying slot to you unless you are a previous F car buyer (not an owner) meaning you have to have established a relationship with them before in order to be granted the right to spend your $$.... It makes sense to a certain extent but the unransparency is what's putting me off in this Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
It's not impossible in the US but it will take a couple of years. I know people in the Tampa area that were first times buyers and got 458 Spider allocations but it was in 2014 and it still took 12+ months. Their 2nd car was 8 months. The current waiting list here for a new buyer is ~24 months. That is how long it is going to take for all the dealers current customers to get their promised allocation. After that anyone will be able to get a build slot.
I have helped a friend getting an allocation for a spider. First year allocation. if you are in the US you can shoot me a pm.
I am on a 12 month out status for the 488 GTB. I purchased a 430 from the dealer and sold them my 458.
In Montreal, we have lots of car dealerships that order stock for their good clients in case they decide to order. And if not, they spec them and lease/finance/sell them to buyers. So I called them and asked if they had any 488 coming in. They gave me one of the 3 cars they had reserved for their good clients, which i am. Waiting from ferrari was over a year, but that got moved to 4 months since i went through a dealership called Holand Leasing. I'm sure you guys have lots of third party dealers in the states. Contact them and see whats up
No such thing as a third party dealer in the US. You also must buy from your local dealer unless you're in a city that is further than 100 miles from a Ferrari dealer.
That sounds about right. We're 2 years right now but not all current owners/good customers have requested their cars yet and for the next couple of years, every time one of them wants an allocation, the new guy gets bumped down the list. As my sales guy likes to explain it.. imagine walking in to your regular restaurant hangout which you frequent on a weekly basis. Regardless of how long the waiting list might be.. you get the next available table.. or if a really good customer, the corner window table with no reservation required. The poor first time customers that had a reservation are left waiting longer simply because you showed up!
Difficult but not impossible. But you'll be shocked at how little they give you in trade. And if they can't certify it they may not even want it. Dealers are overflowing with 458's and it will get worse.
I had my 458 sold on consignment a couple of months ago to prevent the low trade number. I agree, there are already tons of 458's for sale. I would rather do without a Ferrari for a few months than take a 30k hit.
Interestingly enough, I have been told by 2 dealers that if I put a deposit down in the next 30 days I can get a 488 from each or either dealer. One would be delivered in sept 2016 and the other in December 2016/jan 2017 I think this is funny because a dealer that I have tried to work with over the years won't give me the time of day about a 488.... But other dealers clearly want my business. I'm not sure if demand is lacking on the 488 or what. I really want the car, but I'm very cautious of what is going on in the oil market and I fear the economy may be dictating less buyers and orders on these cars than usual.... I'm not a big fish and aside from being a nice guy and a Ferrari lover, there is really no reason for either dealer to offer me a slot on the 488 All of that being said, I probably will place an order as it would be my first chance to ever build and get w Ferrari brand new and exactly as I want
Like everyone said above getting that allocation will be a wait. So the real question is do you want it now? The answer no way! Unless someone who wants to get on the bad side of their dealer and sell you one as soon as they receive it - could be way over MSRP!
Looks like there are dealers out there more hungry than your current dealer. In that case, I'd switch to someone who'd want by business. There will always be buyers. Plenty of people make money from other things than oil. Like yourself, there's always someone in line for a Ferrari.
It is true, but like you said, plenty of ways around it... however, I am 300+ miles from the nearest dealership, so I can work with any dealer.
There are ways around it but to get an early allocation you need a relationship. My 488 is here in January.
You definitely need a relationship to get early allocation, no doubt about that. Doesn't have to be a relationship with the closest dealer to you.
"Relationship" varies from place to place. In Dallas, I am told 4 year wait to order 488 Spider. I bought a new FF from them last year! Too much money in Dallas.
