well now you have.. You can see what real guys do when they work on their own cars. The car was perfectly balanced and very safe..so when the engine came out, it didn't move at all. In fact, it much more safer then a 2 post because this way the car it strapped down as apposed to sitting on something and held by gravity. Before ewe go too much further, i'm not the first guy to do this either.. its actually very popular and shows just how easy it is to do an engine out.

Search 4 post engine out and you should find lots of people that have done it this way.

I'm hoping to be doing something exactly like this with my 4 post this winter when I get my back fixed and recover. Hopefully have the 348 ready for spring.

 

Thought I would offer my 2 cents since I've just spent a ton of time researching this and use lifts daily.

In my shop we use Rotary asymmetrical 2 post lifts. Been using them for 12 years without a problem and we use them on every thing...mostly high end cars...both front, mid and rear engined cars. Trucks and even a bike or 2. Rotary is US made(mine are) and they have a professional dealer network to set them up and service if needed.

Make sure you get low profile arms/pads to make it easy to get the cars on them.

For the 4 post lifts, I opted for the Danmar Commander 7000X. $2750 shipped with casters, drip trays and jack plate($300 or something extra I think)....I will use the 4 posters as storage.

The Danmar was one of the few I could find that was independently tested and received an ALI Certification(in addition, the size was a little better for my application). I found that certification to be really important to me...maybe because I spend a lot of time under cars on lifts(20+ years). My Rotarys have the certification...never even paid attention to that sticker on them all these years. It's worth spending some time reading about it.

I watched some tests on YouTube of China lifts failing after loading 1/2 their rated weight. It was horrifying quite honestly. I would never stand anywhere near a China 2 post let alone under one after seeing that stuff. They look like stout lifts but their welds tore...you could see how light duty they were. Maybe the chances of one failing are slim but I've seen a car fall off a 2 post lift(improperly loaded and not at my shop)...you only want to see that once. Lifting cars is no joke.

 

After asking for information to get a Bendpak scissor lift in Europe I did get this answer...:

Strange that those lifts are for sale in the US and that a big company like BendPak is'nt getting CE certificates for scissor lifts in Europe. Something to do with safety regulations more strikt in Europe ?

I believe CE-mark is definately not proof any anything, and it should be easily achieved. At least pretty much all the other Chinese lifts have it.
(I'm in the process of buying scissor lift like Nussbaum Sprinter)

 

That is how real men take their engines out. It really does not need to go up that high to clear the engine. 9 ft ceiling is plenty.

Seriously just drop them out no lift needed. I rarely use a lift they get it in the way more then good they do. Defiantly 4 poster so you can stack cars for a lift at home.

Plus you can put plywood on them and they make a great table for parties

 

no to Mohawk. I had a very expensive 30 ton unit. no support. it was a nightmare

 

Bend-pak are made in china.....so thats why they cannot have the OFFICIAL CE certificates...

I'm no expert but I believe they could, e.g. pretty much everything that is sold here must have CE mark and most of stuff is produced in China. And they are official CE marks.

"The CE marking is the manufacturer's declaration that the product meets the requirements of the applicable EC directives"

So its nothing but manufacturers declaration and little bit of money. And Chinese made lifts sold here does have them, some probably not official ones but most does.

 

I unbolt my maxjax and roll it to a corner before I pull the poker table out.
