The OEM is likely the old CTEK, first out in 2003, and only has 0.8Amp Max If the Ferrari port is the same as prior models (4 pin, U shaped shell) then this will give you a far better solution for battery maintaining and desulphation modes Ultimate Ferrari Battery Maintainer Ctek Mus 4 3 Dongle Complete System | eBay
What year did Ferrari switch from lead acid to AGM for F12 and 458 ? A bit off topic, but has anyone experienced the crap OEM battery Maserati uses in its 2015 Granturismo C ? My mother bought one in August and the battery crapped out earlier this month. The dealer replaced with a different brand.
Its just the models that have HELE. So your car doesn't have HELE likely you don't have AGM. The batteries are way more fussy but they are needed for these start/stop systems- which I really hate. Btw- this isn't unique to Ferrari. Thats the rule for just about every other manufacturer. If your car as start/stop- you should check but its very likely your car has an AGM battery.
Hmmm...I was under the impression 458's had AGM's....I guess I better take my charger off snowflake mode ? Edit: if I am to trust the manual for my 2014 (battery section is up to date) it's says my car has a lead acid battery. I guess the only way to know for sure is to open up the battery compartment and research the make and model of said battery. If it is in fact lead acid, I hope I haven't damaged it maintaining in ctek snowflake mode for the past 5 months.
My '14 458 has a lead acid battery. I don't know if you've damaged it or not but my guess is the lead acid batteries are less sensitive than the AGM.
I have the ctek multi 7002. After carefully re-reading the manual... http://smartercharger.com/wp-content/uploads/2010/11/Multi-US-7002_us.pdf Ctek recommends snow flake for lead acid batteries in addition to AGM if the ambient temperature is less than 41 degrees F, which it is during the coldest winter months in my garage where I live. So for me, winter I will use snowflake and the rest of the year normal charging mode.

Does the F12 have this type of connector from the current OEM charging package offered by Ferrari? Gotta be, but just checking Ferrari 70002821 Battery Maintainer Dongle Complete System Upgradable | eBay
This is the new one and that is correct adapter. Actually it comes with a number of connection options.
My Ferrari brand charger says on the side that it puts out 3.3A and uses 4 steps. It is Model US 3300 and has no buttons (appears discontinued). This thread is confusing. Some say the OEM battery is AGM others say wet lead/acid. Also, a trip to the CTEK site shows over a dozen similar chargers and everyone (even the 4 step units) feature a desulphation program. I'm not looking for a charger but if I were it might not be an easy choice.
All F12 (different for Cali) with or without HELE come with an AGM battery from factory. The OEM spec is: Brand: FIAMM Type: L5 AGM 12V 95 Ah 850A EN
battery life. Charging/maintaining AGM type batteries properly means it will have a longer life before replacement is necessary.
thanks, i honestly didn't know. seems to me when the battery dies or gets weak get a new one. as i stated a couple months ago i've never owned a car that cost more than 200k with a battery that ever seemed to work properly, and that's a lot of cars!! I'm not to bright when it comes to mechanical/electrical things with cars. i just put mine on what ever tender that came with the car(2014 f12). had my maintenance guy start all my cars every couple weeks like normal. he didnt unplug the tender when he started the car, i failed to inform him to do that. oops..... when i returned home after 6-7 weeks the f12 battery seemed perfect, it fired up perfect. Then......The radio goes to am sometimes now when i start the car from satellite when i shut the car off. The turn signals only blink 3 times. sometimes the radio is ok and the turn signals work, other times the right signal will stay on and the left wont or the other way around. There is no pattern to it, random. only works correctly 10% of the time.
Thanks. I was told the battery was AGM when I bought the car. I'm also assuming that the US 3300 Ferrari charger that came with it is appropriate as well.
It is interesting with expensive cars that you need to watch the battery unlike most other cars. I don't think your F12 was started with the tender plugged in. IIRC the car wont start if the battery tender is still plugged in. No worries there. Those little electrical gremlins are a bit strange.
Is there anyone well versed with all the Ctek offerings? There are so many and it's so confusing. I wish they would make a chart comparing all the models. It looks like there is this new MXS 5.0, which costs pretty much the same as the MUS 4.3. From the specs, they look the same to me. 1) Does anyone know which one of those two is better and what are the differences? 2) What about the 7002? If I need to get only one, I guess it will be better to go with the 7002 rather than the 4.3 or 5.0, right?
Of course, it is at least 6997 better! I still have the same setup and the battery is doing well (surprisingly) so I don't think the particular charger model and number of steps matter much given this experience. Might be looking for a new battery perhaps at year 6 with any luck. Just keep it on the charger when not in use but make sure you drive it well and often enough to keep the systems and yourself in order.
My current F12 is now three years old and already on its 3rd battery. All replaced under warranty. Car is always on the battery tender, whenever it is at home in the garage. Marcel Massini
I have an MXS 5.0 which gives 5A charge and has advanced charging. It has more LEDs than some of the lesser models showing the various stages of charging. I can't fault it. My F12 2017 came with a more basic model that only has 3 LEDs but I'm not sure exactly which CTEK model it is as it is Ferrari branded. It says it gives 3.6A charge. I don't think you'll go wrong with the MXS 5.0 unless you want a faster charge then maybe the 7.0.
Thanks for all the infos. Great to hear someone has tried the MXS 5.0. From what I have read, all Ferrari branded ones occurred at the time when CTEK was changing to the better technology and thus all the outdated ones got dumped and bought by Ferrari to be labeled and sold at a premium.
Someone here recommended the CTEK 4.3 and it's great. Has a once a year setting to recondition the battery. My battery is 3+ years old in the FF. Most of it's life on the stock Ferrari tender from CTEK.
The correct charger is the MXS 7.0. You will also need the adapter if you use the socket in the boot.
