A really solid-looking 3.2 Coupe just came on the market (post-service) in the Bay Area... No affiliation with the seller - just FYI.

The market for many old classics is really heated, for cars that are restored or maintained to near new condition. There are a few Mondial"s like that, and those that exist are bargains right now even at a major price premium to the average of the "market". From what I have seen in this thread, you should take a punt on a coupe that looks like it has not been hit or completely neglected, but is a bit tired, and take it from there. You might get lucky with a good driver with few troubles. We are nearing the end of these hand built cars in any even half decent condition being affordable. Just do it. I would also suggest the cab's probably have the broader and deeper market, but I can't argue the coupe is a unique design with its own appeal.

Yes sometimes the fun is the search, and there also is the fun of pulling the trigger and enjoying a well sorted car... As prices rise you might regret the car you did not purchase 11 months ago. I know I do... Every car is going to have its issues due to age that need to addressed.
That is what comes with Ferrari ownership.

Let it be known that Domenic spent almost 3 years hunting for his 328, and he ended up with an award winning car. Thus, he is only about 1/6th of the way into discovering a nice Mondial!

I want to thank you ALL!!! I know I am a particular buyer, but I am looking for a car for the long haul. I have a couple of leads but location sometimes is a challenging and I never buy a car with out personally looking at it. To many horror stories. Please continue with the referrals the karma will come back.

Sorry to hijack. I too am looking for the perfect Mondial. 3.2, Red/Tan. One on eBay last week looked very promising but owner and I couldn't get together on price. I might regret it, but I hope not. I'm in the Cincinnati, OH area. Anybody have any leads I would be greatly appreciative. Doogie

Welcome to FerrariChat and good luck with your quest. And honesty, a perfect 3.2 Mondial, Coupe or Cab, would realistically cost over $45k. So if the one you looked at was less, then go for it. But if the car was too perfect to drive (i.e. garage/trailer queen) then yeah, the sky's the limit for collectors.

on Ebay were priced correctly if not a little low. 3.2 Coupes are the best of the bunch and the prices will just go up. Best of luck in your search. I am happy I got mine when I did.

There were only 87 3.2 Coupes imported into North America. So, they are fairly rare and unique cars.

I have an 85 QV Coupe - and love it.

Thanks. The one I wanted was a Cab, but no known (verifiable) service history, so to bring it back up to "known Service history" I would be looking at about $5K (Brakes/Belts/Pumps/etc...) Not sure I wanted to pay the asking price and have to immediately throw another 5K at it. But I was tempted!

Time for me to give back, going to help my F chat Paisanos who are ok with a QV. As you know I am a very particular and both below look to be some of the best I have found. The first one is Gold, a color I have never seen. I spoke to Chris at the dealership. He told me they are going to pull car off website soon to bring to Auction so jump on it if you are interested tell him Nick from RI referred you. Though my F chat friends disagree, both are over priced and perhaps this is why thy haven't sold yet.

As a practical individual, a condition 2 QV in Haggerty is $27,400K, QVs in FML API are at $28,100K NADA average is $33,500 and Condition 1 in Hagerty is $34K. Accordingly, in my calculations a fair price is $30-$31 and that is above the range of those that have sold on E Bay. The exception is a car that has had a recent DOCUMENTED belt service by a know Ferrari Mechanic. In that case, I would push it to the 32K-34K range. Many have belts done by the individual owner or a "Ferrari Mechanic" who works on the side. To me I can't risk $30-35K based on the word of a seller or salesman.

Now, to quote Gerald Roush, I do understand that a Ferrari is work what ever an individual is willing to pay for it. While I say this, I highly recommend "THE FERRARI COMPANION READER" one of the easiest, most enjoyable informative book I have read along with the Ferrari Market Letter Home : Ferrari Market Letter.

Used 1985 Ferrari Mondial for Sale in Tampa St Pete Clearwater FL 33781 Private All Star Cars

The second, which is cheaper has unbelievably low mileage (disclaimer I have not run car fax or seen repair records to substantiate it) and is priced less.

1985 Ferrari Mondial 4 seater Convertible

Good luck my friends! I am focused on a 3.2 coupe if anyone knows of one or have any leads PM me.

Basically between those 4 sources and Ferrari chat, you should be able to be "in the know" for any Mondial that comes for sale (in the US at least)

Some things you no doubt heard already over and over again (that's because they are true)

    Paul's 10 Points
    ------------------
    1) Most expensive Mondial is usually a 'cheap' Mondial
    2) PPI from reliable inspector is a must, no exceptions, full stop.
    3) Assume 5-10K additional costs first year (expect the worst, hope for the best)
    4) Go with the style you think 'looks' best to you (this is just my opinion, you no longer buy these cars for performance) - they *all* will trend to mediocre performance every time another year rolls by. That said - it is the exhilarating car I've owned by a huge margin.
    5) Make sure you have a reliable mechanic nearby BEFORE you purchase!
    6) Don't automatically ignore salvage title, find out what caused the designation and repair info - consider context of the damage.
    7) Factor in 30K service (5-10K) if it hasn't been done recently into price
    8) Do you prefer coupe/convertible? Stick to what you like - don't compromise
    9) If you plan to buy this car for speculation, assume the worst - it may stagnate in price - buy because you love it, not for investment...that way you will never be disappointed.
    10) California Only* (Make sure the car can pass strict smogs emissions if out of state or country)

    Hope this helps!

It did, but to a non-paying bidder. First time, I never had a problem with Ebay buyers. Not sure if I will relist it. I do love this car, but I really could settle down with a coupe in the same condition.
